Hello 6th grade families from the 6th grade math team of Mrs. Burke and Mrs. Proctor.
Middle school is a big transition! We want to help make it a smooth transition, so we are sharing some expectations to start you off ready for success.
1. Pencils. You are responsible for bringing and caring for your pencils. Please do not buy the ones with the plastic wrapping on them. They are fun to look at, but school pencil sharpeners break from trying to sharpen them. Dixon Ticonderoga is the best brand for quality and durability. You should have at least 3 sharpened pencils with you every day at school. If your family can provide extras for the classroom, we are always in need to help students that don't have them.
2. A pencil pouch that snaps into your binder. It holds those pencils that you are responsible for.
3. Expo dry erase markers. small skinny ones for your student, and the big colorful ones for the teacher. We do a lot of board work, and they are a vital tool in math.
4. Calculator. You do not need a big expensive one. Even if you are taking compacted math, you just need one that does basic adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
5. A 1 to 1 1/2 inch binder. This is for putting math notes in.
6. Math is fun! You are lucky to have 2 math teachers who LOVE math. We want you to be successful, and you will be. If you come prepared with your materials, and ready to try your best, you are already on your way to math greatness. See you soon.
