Hymns of the Day

The women disciples of the Lord heard from the angel, the joyful news of the Resurrection and the repeal of the sentence imposed upon our forefathers. With pride they said to the Apostles, "Death is vanquished, Christ our God is risen bestowing upon the world His great mercy."

Your birth, O Theotokos, brought joy to the whole world, for from you dawned the sun of righteousness, Christ our God. Freeing us from the curse, He gave us His blessings. Abolishing death, He granted us eternal life.

Though You went down into the tomb, O Immortal One, yet You brought down the dominion of Hades; and You rose as the victor, O Christ our God; and You called out "Rejoice" to the Myrrh-bearing women, and gave peace to Your Apostles, O Lord who to the fallen grant resurrection.

In your holy birth, Immaculate One, Joachim and Anna were rid of the shame of childlessness; Adam and Eve of the corruption of death. And so your people, free of the guilt of their sins, celebrate crying: "The barren one gives birth to the Theotokos, who nourishes our life."

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Plagal Second Mode. Psalm 27.9,1.

O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance.

Verse: To you, O Lord, I have cried, O my God.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 6:11-18.

Brethren, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.

Plagal Second Mode.

Gospel Reading

The Reading is from John 3:13-17

The Lord said, "No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him."

SPECIAL PARKING INSTRUCTIONS DURING CONSTRUCTION

Dear Parishioners,

As we embark on the construction phase of our Expansion Project, we seek your cooperation. A good portion of our parking spaces will now be enclosed in the construction area. This project will continue for many months, so we need to work together to minimize its impact.

  • We will have volunteers on hand to assist with parking. Please follow their directions carefully, even if it means that you are parking in a different spot than you prefer. Remember that they are volunteers and your fellow parishioners.

  • In order that we maximize parking on site, we ask that you carpool whenever possible,
and that you do not take more than one vehicle per family.

  • For our busiest services, we will have busing available from the LIU Post Parking Lot. If advised by our parking volunteers that the lot is full, please proceed to the West Gate at Post, and proceed to the East side parking lot closest to our church. From there, a bus will be available to bring parishioners to and from the Church.

We thank you in advance for your courtesy and cooperation. We hope that these small and temporary inconveniences will soon be overcome by the wonderful benefits that will come when the project is completed.

With heartfelt thanks,

Fr Panteleimon Papadopoulos, Stephanie Clark, and the Expansion Team

“As President Lincoln reminded us at Gettysburg, it is the efforts of those, living and dead, who pursue a noble cause, that consecrates a place and time. The world will little note what we say in their memory, but long remember the bright cause they cared for, and what we do to carry their flame forward.

We commemorate and ask God to bless the victims of 9-11 and bring peace to all who mourn them, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.”
