MRH Board Kicks Off Strategic Planning Process

The MRH Board of Education and District administrators are spent their Saturday morning in robust discussions about the future of the District. The strategic planning process began in earnest with help from our new partner, Insight Education.

The continuous improvement plan serves as a long-range tool for addressing student performance and District improvement outlining specific sets of actions relative to key issues. As a part of the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) 6, all districts are to have a five-year plan, rooted in data, that focuses on the academic achievement and social-emotional well-being of all students.

Early Childhood Music Teacher Tapped for SLSO Performance

Matt Pentecost, ECC music teacher, has been selected to participate in a very special opportunity with musicians of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra on Friday, October 7, 2022. EXTRA CREDIT On Stage at Powell will provide Matt with the opportunity to rehearse and perform a concert side by side with SLSO musicians under the direction of Conductor Norman Huynh.

The concert is free and open to the public and tickets are available here.  Students, parents, teachers and administrators from Maplewood Richmond Heights Early Childhood Center are urged to pack the house to applaud Matt’s performance.

The benefits of music education in our schools are numerous and well documented. EXTRA CREDIT On Stage at Powell provides an opportunity to celebrate the educators who inspire the effort required by their students to learn to play an instrument and perform successfully in an ensemble.

MRH Juniors Selected for Leadership Program

Congratulations go out to Franklin Orahood and Chase Acosta, MRH juniors who were just selected for the Fred Saigh Leadership Academy.

Launched in 2004, The Fred Saigh Leadership Academy broadens student horizons beyond the classroom through new and unique community-related opportunities. Approximately twenty students who show leadership potential participate in a year of training. The curriculum introduces, fosters and develops leadership skills through involving students in issues that face the community. At the completion of the program, the students return to their respective schools equipped to campaign for school offices, manage school projects and assume leadership positions.

The selected students take one day each month to visit and explore key locations and meet leaders throughout the metro area. The program exposes the students to the institutions that make our community vital and effective in meeting the needs of its citizens. Examples include a visit to the St. Louis County Executive’s Office, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and the State Capitol in Jefferson City, Missouri.
