IRA Rollover - A Way to Give
Don't Forget: IRA Charitable Rollover Extended Through December 2013!
On January 2, 2013, President Obama signed the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (H.R. 8) into law, extending the IRA Charitable Rollover provision until December 31, 2013.

The provision permits individuals who are 70-1/2 or older to roll over up to $100,000 from an individual retirement account (IRA) directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing the assets transferred to the qualifying charity as income. For more information on how you can make a positive difference for Iowa 4-H'ers through an IRA Rollover gift, go to or contact Albert Grunenwald at 515-294-5780.

Oh The People You Will Meet When You Share the 4-H Spirit

I am so incredibly humbled and lucky that part of my job is to travel out  and about around our state to see people and friends I know, and to make new ones along the way. May I never take for granted the terrific privilege and to always appreciate these experiences!

While out and about, I often hear and witness stories of extraordinary human measures. In the spirit of spreading the 4-H development of character, I wanted to share a couple with you.

2013 Call-A-Thon Starts With A Bang

The Iowa State University Collegiate 4-H Club members have invaded the  foundation's office! Well, at least they have taken over the phones. The null2013 Iowa 4-H Foundation Call-A-Thon is underway and the "invasion" by ISU students has quickly raised over $3,000 for Iowa 4-H'ers on the FIRST night.

Under the direction of ISU 4-H Programming Chair and Foundation staff member, Ashley Kinkade, current ISU 4-H members take time out of their busy days to call perspective supporters of the 4-H mission to "Make The Best Better." Thank you to The Iowa State University Collegiate 4-H Club members for all they do to assist with the Call-A-Thon annually! Check back in coming editions of the Iowa 4-H Foundation Four-Word e-News to find out the total raised!

Foundation Welcomes Special Events Intern
The Iowa 4-H Foundation welcomes Brittany Behrendsen as the second Marketing and Special Events Intern. Brittany is currently a senior at Iowa State University majoring in Event Management and minoring in Business. Her hometown is Rolfe which is located in Pocahontas County.

Brittany was a member of both the Garfield Gleaners and Boots & Spurs 4-H clubs. She enjoyed taking several projects to the fair every year and had several chosen to continue on to the state fair. During her younger days as a 4-H member she showed horses and goats. Her favorite 4-H memory is receiving the Grand Champion Showmanship award with both her horse and goat. Along with being awarded the Grand Champion Horse at Halter with her horse Jags. Throughout high school Brittany was a County Council member for Pocahontas County and took part in helping to plan activities at the county fair and the 4-H awards night.

She said she really enjoyed growing up as a 4-H member. "4-H taught me many valuable life lessons and provided learning opportunities that I can take with me and use throughout my life. 4-H is a very special opportunity for youth to take part in and I hope that every young person has that opportunity to experience what 4-H has to offer."

Throughout the year Behrendsen will be providing important support, such as coordinating auction items, for the 2014 Central Iowa 4-H Gala and Eastern Iowa 4-H Gala. She can be contacted at (515) 294-1607 or by email at
