Message from President Sara Beacham

Greetings!
Over the past weeks and months, one topic has consistently come up in almost every conversation – how do we continue to operate as a Soroptimist club and keep our members and loved ones safe? First, I want to say, thank you for your concerns. Second, I want to share some of the processes we have in place to help keep everyone safe and continue operating in real life.
We are so grateful that SIA has offered guidelines for us to follow for meeting in real life. These guidelines include following the most restrictive health guidelines for COVID-19. In this case, our club follows the Butte County Public Health Department’s guidelines. These state that unvaccinated individuals are required to wear masks indoors, vaccinated are not required to wear masks indoors. There are selected times when all individuals must continue to wear masks indoors, such as on school campuses and in healthcare offices.
SIA also requires us to file a Declaration of meetings or non-member activities. Thanks to our Treasurer Gayle Aylward, many of these declarations have already been filed.
I understand that many individuals are uncomfortable with meeting in person. That is why we will continue to offer the hybrid model and offer zoom to those who wish to attend virtually. You can find the zoom links for our meetings in the eblast. Many co-chairs offer zoom for their regular committee meetings. Our board meetings are also offered hybrid, so you can attend on zoom or in person.
I hope this helps. I am excited to be back in person and hope to see as many smiling faces as possible (eyes smile too!) back at the Elks Lodge for lunch meetings. We have a great program lined up this week. Then, we have committee meetings and dark for one week before our next business meeting on October 6, 2021.
There is a lot going on in between this week and the next time we meet in person on the 6th. This includes the SIA 100-Year Celebration on September 25 and 26 and SI’s 100-Year Celebration October 1-3. You can still register for these two events. Check out the links below.
See you on Wednesday!
President Sara

Ali Duivenvoorden is a California State University, Chico Alumni who majored in Animal Science, which is where her agricultural journey began.
While working at the University Farm’s Organic Dairy, Ali took an internship at a small raw milk farmstead creamery in Maine. Upon returning to Chico for her last semester in 2012, she met her husband Seth, who coincidentally had a multi-generation raw milk dairy in Cottonwood, California.
After graduating and working in a promising ag career, Ali moved to Duivenvoorden Farms with Seth to grow their family and business together. In addition to raising a family, Ali played a significant role in building the raw milk dairy into a farmstead creamery, developing vendor relations, organizing events, and creating a digital marketing presence.
In 2018, Ali and Seth purchased a dilapidated 15-acre property, in need of major repair and attention. While not many people could see it, they had a vision for a new business venture: Farm Ground, LLC. This umbrella company includes Farm Ground Flowers, Farm Ground Marketplace, and has more subdivisions on the way. As a whole, Farm Ground’s mission is to share the symbiotic and sustainable relationship between agriculture and the people who depend on it. After three years of clean-up, re-zoning, and preparation, their 15-acre property project is in Phase One of development and will be open to the public in early 2022.

From SI Objectives Committee: Get excited SI Chico for this years’ Member of the Month, we have added a twist and will feature our fur babies too. It will be fun to learn a little more about our members via their pets.
September SI Chico Fur Baby (and Member) of the Month!
To kickoff the year, we are pleased to introduce the club to Carhartt and Cruz, President Sara’s fur babies. Carhartt is a terrier mix and is almost 4 years old. She loves to steal empty water bottles from the recycling bin at the gym where she is often an assistant trainer. Carhartt’s new brother is Cruz. Cruz is a 3-year-old Boxer rescue who joined the family at the end of April. Cruz has made the adjustment from the beach in Santa Cruz to Chico. He loves to swim, play and be right next to his people all day long. These two have a sweet life with Sara and Nick, getting walked daily, lots of treats and toys and endless love.
Beside being a dog lover, our SI Chico President Sara keeps busy with many things. She owns two businesses, B Fit, a personal training gym and 25th Hour, a bookkeeping and payroll firm. She is a newly minted Wildcat, starting a graduate program in Kinesiology this fall. In her free time (what free time?!), she trains for future bodybuilding competitions, spends time with her hubby, family and friends and rewatches her favorite shows, Grey’s Anatomy and Friends. She is a longtime Soroptimist and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of women and girls. We woof you President Sara!
