Message from President
Billie Araiza
Greetings!

We find ourselves with another fire raging through Butte County. My heart goes out to everyone who is currently facing evacuations and to all those who survived the Camp Fire and are now living in the smoky conditions and may possibly have to evacuate again. My prayers are with all those who have lost loved ones in all these fires. We also need to keep the Firefighters, their families, and the other rescue personal in our thoughts. They too are suffering and making sacrifices to help others.

We have six SI Chico Club members and two past members, who are currently living in areas that have either been evacuated or are on the possible evacuation list. It’s more important than ever, that we continue to reach out to all our club members and support one another. If you know of any members that need assistance, please reach out to me, so we can provide the support they need. As a club, we are here to support our members emotionally, physically, and sometimes even financially. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if any of you need anything!

I am so very grateful to Soroptimist for all they have done for me and for other fire survivors. I hope as a club, we will be able to continue to support our local fire survivors and fire personal. Every day, I continue to look at the things we have to be grateful for. During these challenging times, I hope all of you are finding things to be grateful for too.

Please continue to keep Bev and her family in your thoughts and prayers while she recovers. I’m sending her healing vibes every day. I know we are all looking forward to seeing her smiling face on Zoom in the near future.

With gratitude,

President Billie

Hands-On Project Opportunity!
The Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP), launched in 1973, assists low-income and rural disadvantaged residents, seniors and families who lack financial resources or information to find adequate housing.

CHIP is seeking to help stabilize the operation of Turning Point Commons (TPC), a residential housing cooperative in Chico, by taking over the corporation in order to secure funding for rehab of the property. The TPC Board has approved this move. Because it is a housing cooperative, the members (tenants) will need to approve. CHIP is asking Soroptimist to help distribute ballots to the 60 residents and count and verify the ballots afterwards.

Our task is to distribute ballots to 60 residents on September 25 (one hour) and than verify and count the ballots on October 29 (two hours).

This project will need only a few of us and take three hours of our time while showing our club’s ongoing support of low-income families’ housing needs. I hope you will consider volunteering.
