Message from President
Billie Araiza
|
Greetings!
Thank you to everyone who attended our first Business Meeting of the new club year. It was nice to see everyone. I also want to thank everyone who voted on the motions that were sent out on Survey Monkey. I’m happy to announce, all the motions passed. It is certainly different holding our meetings on Zoom and voting online too. I really appreciate everyone being flexible and adapting to the changes. This is a year full of change and gratitude for the little things.
I am very grateful for all the support and encouragement I have received from our club members and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at our club installation and retreat. For those who are unable to attend, we will be recording the installation for future viewing, so everyone will all have an opportunity to participate. There is no charge for attending the installation but there is a $10 fee for retreat, to help offset the cost of supplies. Please mail your checks to our club PO Box 1812, Chico, CA 95927, and put the word “Retreat” on the memo line. Thank you to those who have already mailed their checks!
I hope all of you will be able to join us for our club meeting on Zoom this week. We will be hearing from Habitat for Humanity. Many of you probably remember our club gave their organization $5,000, at the end of our last club year, to help with funding some of their current projects. I know I’m excited to hear how those projects are progressing. The best part of being a Soroptimist is being able to give back to our community!
With gratitude,
President Billie

EXCERPTS FROM SNR E-BLAST DIGEST, SEPTEMBER 1, 2020
|
|
Hello to all, we are now into the sixth month of Covid-19. We are still in a very fluid situation. I see that clubs are thinking outside the box. Many are adapting to conducting meetings on line and other clubs are doing hybrid meetings, members in the room and at the same time members on line. What a great job of keeping members engaged.
I received an email from Past SI President Dawn Marie Lemonds who attended a town hall meeting hosted by the UN and in attendance were Women from Civil Society Organizations around the world. Click here to view notes of the meeting presentations.
Interesting News:
SIA is moving forward in amending its bylaws, including, but not limited to, references to SI. Click here for the proposed amendments which the clubs will be asked to vote on.
In case you were not aware, SI amended its bylaws effective May 15, 2020. Click here for the amended document.
Best,
Governor Sarah

GRANT FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR DIBI PROGRAMS
As your club year begins, will you be hosting a Dream It, Be It program? If so, financial help may be available to support your efforts. The Sierra Nevada Region Youth Grant Fund is designed to assist "either Dream It, Be It programs or S-Club projects that further the Soroptimist mission."
With Covid-19 issues keeping most students away from schools, the S-Clubs are not active at present. But EVERY club can create some sort of a DIBI program! It may be a bit different than what the original designers envisioned, but that's where your creative skills and financial help from the Sierra Nevada Region can make it a reality. With up to $500 available, do consider applying right away. The deadline for applications is coming soon - September 15th - so don't delay. The application is simple and can be accessed at the SNR website/Members section or is linked in the "Do Dates" section above.
