Exploring Equity in Math Education

The NSF TSETS Grant project E Kūkulu Ke Kahua a Paʻa: Build the Foundation Until Firm co-hosted a special screening of the math documentary Counted Out at the Performing Arts Center at Kaua‘i Community College. Held in collaboration with Hawai‘i Technology Academy – Kaua‘i (HTA) and supported by the UH Foundation, the event brought together educators, students, and community members to explore issues of equity and access in mathematics education. A thoughtful panel discussion followed the screening and featured high school students, a TSETS grant participant teacher from Kapaʻa Elementary School, Kaua‘i CC math faculty member Professor Mike Miller, and an HTA math teacher.

The family of the deceased will receive the professionally framed portrait at the end of the exhibition.

The exhibition will be open from Feb. 1-April 30, 2026 at the Kaua'i CC Performing Arts Center.
