Welcome to the beginning of fall in the northwoods! We've switched to our winter hours here at the library, but we're still open at 9 a.m. six days a week.

You don't want to miss the event this week with Wisconsin author Nickolas Butler, happening this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Camp Jorn in Manitowish Waters. And of course, our big news this month is the upcoming Friends of the Library Fall Celebration on September 24th. Read on for the details, and we'll s ee you at the library!

Nickolas Butler - Thursday, Sept. 8th

Nickolas Butler, the Wisconsin author of
Shotgun Lovesongs, will visit the Northwoods on Thursday, September 8th at 6:30 p.m. at Camp Jorn YMCA in Manitowish Waters.

Butler's visit is part of the Northwoods Book Festival, a summer-long program sponsored by the Mercer Public Library and the libraries in Boulder Junction, Manitowish Waters, Minocqua, Presque Isle and Winchester.

Friends of the Library Fall Celebration

The annual Friends of the Mercer Library Fall Celebration will be on Saturday, September 24th at 5-8:30 p.m. This popular event includes a full Italian dinner, live music, wine, live and silent auctions, and book basket raffles. Tickets are $20/person in advance, $25/person at the door, and are available now at the library. 

Author talk: Women & Christian Mission

How do Christian women think about and do mission in a complex world where religious proselytizing has become suspect? Author and local resident Frances Adeney will appear at the Mercer Library on Friday, September 16th at 1:00 p.m. to discuss her study, which explores that question with nearly 100 interviews of women in Europe, Asia, Brazil, and the United States. All are welcome to this free program.

Fe University fall sessions

Fe University is an Iron County program that gives older adults a chance to keep their minds active by providing college-level courses for seniors. Their fall sessions have begun, and future classes include a course on genetics and evolution, and an insider's view of the NFL.
