September is Hunger Action Month. This month, and every month, we work tirelessly to ensure that no one in our community suffers from hunger. Whether a family visits our food pantry once or every week, our services provide a critical safety net for our most vulnerable community members.

Will you support our mission of preventing hunger in our town? Your gift today will go directly to stock our pantry with nutritious food staples, purchase snacks for students, provide baby formula, and more.

The summer is typically our "quiet season" at the food pantry, as seasonal work is in full swing. However, due to the effects of the pandemic, even our slower months are vastly busier than ever before. This month, we had 779 visits to the food pantry, compared to 189 visits in September 2019.

So far this year, we have given our neighbors 237,633 meals worth of food. That is nearly 15,000 more meals than what we provided in all of last year. We will likely give out over 300,000 meals this year, 100,000 more than in 2020 through the pandemic.

Thank you to our supporters and donors whose generosity helps us continue to meet this increased need. This month, we must say a special thank you to Provisions Water Mill for donating all the food they had left after closing and Coopers Beach Cafe for donating everything they had left after the summer season; HAPCO Farms/Fresh from the Start, Share the Harvest, Amber Waves and Bridge Lane Farm for donating fresh produce; Tate's Bakeshop, Golden Pear Cafe and Citarella for generously providing baked goods and bread; North Sea Farms for providing chicken wings, Peconic Prime Meats for donating ground beef; and Long Island Cares and Island Harvest for their continued support.

We can always use more help or more support! We gladly accept food donations on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10AM-2PM. We need more volunteers, in the food pantry and at distributions. Sign up to be a volunteer today, click here

This month was all about getting kids back to school happy and healthy! For many families, the start of school is an exciting time. But for some students, it can be a time filled with anxiety. Your support has allowed us to respond to and assist with every request for help that has come our way from local schools and families.

Thanks to our partnership with Supplies for Success, we provided nearly 300 backpacks packed with school supplies for local students. We have been purchasing additional clothing, shoes, athletic equipment, water bottles, lunch boxes, and anything else our local student support staff asks for assistance with.

We cannot thank you enough for your commitment to bettering the lives of local children.

Upon arrival, they will be asked to fill out a registration form and provide valid identification. This form is used solely for reporting numbers to the food bank so we receive enough food to feed our customers.

Our mission is simple - to help people in our local community who are in need with dignity and without discrimination. For the past 43 years, we've been able to do that together. We thank you!
