Swarthmore Friends of the Arts presents September’s Art Exhibit - “Leaf Shapes, Landscapes“ paintings by local artist Jessica Graae
The exhibition will be on display from September 2 - 29 at Swarthmore Borough Hall, 121 Park Avenue. The public is invited to the artist’s opening reception on Friday, September 4th, from 5 to 7 pm. Both the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Jessica Graae delights in the beauty of the outdoors, finding endless inspiration in nature and light for her oil paintings. Her work features woods, streams, and gardens of Delaware County. Follow her journey here: www.Jessicagraae.com

Book Launch & Author Talk with Rachel Pastan

We're thrilled to celebrate the launch of We're So Lucky to Live Here, the new novel by Celia Bookshop's own Literary Director, Rachel Pastan. Join us for a special night celebrating Rachel and her latest book, a moving novel about home, loss, belonging, and the many ways we build family and find our place in the world.
Come celebrate with Rachel, hear more about the novel, and help us launch a book that is especially meaningful to the Celia Bookshop community.
This special event will be held at the Park Avenue Community (PAC) Center, across the street from the shop at 129 Park Avenue in Swarthmore. Rachel's book and event tickets are available on the Celia Bookshop website.

The Co-Op invites you to join us for The Community Table — an outdoor picnic and potluck on Saturday, September 26, from 6–9 p.m.
Set against the backdrop of our beloved neighborhood mural, we’ll come together to celebrate the creativity, connection, and character that make this community what it is. Bring a picnic dinner, team up with friends and neighbors for a potluck, or pre-purchase from a small menu of Co-Op specialty items ready for pickup at the event — however you show up, there’s a seat for you at the table.
Tickets are $15 per seat and space is limited, so save your spot at the table.

Rotary Arts Conversation: Sculptor and Ceramic Artist Syd Carpenter

Join us for the first Rotary Arts Conversation of the 2026/2027 season for an in-depth conversation with Syd Carpenter, renowned sculptor and ceramic artist. Carpenter is celebrated for sculptural works inspired by African American farms, gardens, memory, and cultural history. Her pieces are held in the permanent collections of some of the world's most prestigious institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This event will be moderated by Nathalie Anderson, writer, educator, andmember of the Rotary Club.

Park Avenue Concerts launches its 2026–27 season in thrilling fashion with a radiant opening-night performance of Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence, presented as a lush and expansive string sextet. Overflowing with lyricism, sweep, and virtuosic interplay, this beloved work sets the tone for a season defined by passion and musical intimacy. The concert also marks the Park Avenue Concerts debut of violinist Paul Roby, alongside renowned cellist Amy Barston and members of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Blood On The Trolley

Go behind the scenes of a real homicide investigation with author and retired Detective Sergeant David M. Splain. In Blood on the Trolley: The Murder of Kareem Johnson, Splain shares the firsthand account of the 2005 trolley murder that challenged investigators through years of trials, appeals, and legal scrutiny. Learn how detectives built a case with limited physical evidence, the role of eyewitness testimony, and the realities of police procedure in this compelling discussion of one of Delaware County's most complex homicide investigations.
