Prayer for Hope
Pastor John will be leading a study on prayer throughout the calendar year for Hope University beginning September 16th at 11:00am and continuing weekly.
The study will be available in person and through Zoom participation and open to all who attend Hope. Pastor John’s wish is that all will meet for the lesson of the week or review a recording of the session. There will be several mini-studies throughout the year. Attendance for each is not required; however, the course is designed as a prayer pilgrimage for all.
Our time in study will be spent as follows:
- An introduction to prayer, including the who, what, and why of prayer. 4 weeks.
- The Lord's Prayer. A six-week study.
- Individual prayer practices: Breath prayer, a form we will use throughout the study; Body/Embodied prayer; Labyrinth walking; Imagination; Music; Benedict's Rule; Praying with beads including the making of Prayer Beads. A seven week study.
- Contemplated prayer will be studied for the balance of the second term. This will be an in-depth and building study from Breath Prayer to Lectio Devina to Release Prayer to Daily Examen to Icons and ultimately to Centering Prayer and Silence.
Brothers and sisters, we need to be mindful of the Hope mission that always includes prayer. Remember that we have the examples of Jesus praying throughout the gospel accounts, we have the gift of the Lord’s prayer from Him, and we have His request that we spread the ‘Good News' of the Gospel to others in and with prayer. We additionally have Paul's admonitions from his letters for us to pray unceasingly. Let's sincerely begin together!
If you have any questions, please contact Pastor John at PastorJohn@hope4all.church or (352) 425-2776.

A Message from the 90th Birthday Party Team
We've all heard of good news and sad news.
First the sad news: Due to the Covid-19 virus continuing to spread in our area, the 90+ Birthday Party scheduled for October 10th has been canceled.
Now the good news: The 90+ Birthday Party team has decided to deliver cards and cupcakes to all the Villages area members. This tradition started last year and was a great success. The team felt that these 90+ year old members needed to be remembered. There are 69 Hope members that will be receiving cards and a birthday cupcake within the next two weeks. Many thanks to the 90+ Birthday Team for being a ray of sunshine to these precious members. Hopefully next October the party will be held at the church.
Just a little history: When we had our first 90+ Birthday Party in 2014, there were 51 Hope members that were 90+ years old. Now 8 years later we have 88 Hope members that are 90+ years old. Some of these members live out of the area but we think living in the Villages is good for you!
God Bless you all,
Karen O'Brien, 90+ Birthday Party Team Leader

Angel Tree Volunteers Needed
It is once again time to begin thinking about volunteering during our Christmas Angel Tree Drive! The Angel Tree Team will need roughly ten volunteers spread throughout our three Hope campuses on November 13th and 14th to assign angels. We estimate we will need 6 volunteers for Hope Central Campus and 2 volunteers at both Hope Lake Weir Campus and Hope at Everglades.
We will also need between 10 to 12 volunteers for the weekend of December 11th and 12th to receive gifts at all three campuses.
There will be Volunteer Meetings in the near future for anyone interested in serving!
Questions? Please contact Lenea Carnes at lenea@hope4all.church or Gloria Johnson at gigi529ga@gmail.com.

Making Music at Hope Lutherans Campuses
One Church with Three Campuses
Exciting news! Beginning this fall, ALL of our campuses will have choirs at their worship services!
After an 18-month hiatus of not having regular choirs singing or ringing the bells, our choirs will joyfully resume their volunteering this fall! In order to make this happen, each choir will begin rehearsing regularly at Hope Central Campus or Hope Lake Weir Campus. Here is a sneak peek of what is going on.
The choirs that we will have this year at Hope are:
- Sisters in Song (SIS)
- Brotherhood of Harmony (BOH)
- Voices of Hope (VOH)
- Spirit Ringers (SR)
- Sonshine Celebration Band (SCB)
- Lake Weir Choir & Chimes (LWC)
- South Site Chorale (SSC) – Our newest choir at Everglades
Each choir has a designated rehearsal time that lasts anywhere from 50 to 90 minutes. Under certain circumstances, it is even possible to join multiple choirs and sing at different services (or campuses) on different Sundays. We have many of volunteers that do just that! Needless to say, we are very blessed with humble volunteers that love the program we have here at Hope!
Ken Wood, our Director of Music Ministries, keeps us all on track with the who, what, where, and when. Behind the scenes, the Department has several special volunteers that help in distributing all our music along with making sure all the pieces are collected after use. These folks were also crucial this summer for our series of Choral Reading Sessions we held within the communities of the three Hope campuses. These special volunteers also assign choir robes and folders along with sending out regular messages to keep us updated. There are capable volunteer accompanists and substitute directors that step up to the plate and help out when needed also. Hope is blessed with several retired educators and performers from within its ranks. We even have a department social coordinator who schedules annual social activities and spearheads get-well cards for recovering choir members.
Currently, we all are masking while at rehearsals and services, observing the new COVID protocols.
The Music Department is ALWAYS looking for new participants (no matter what your ability or availability might be) to join us to make a joyful noise and spread the Word of Christ. If you should have an interest or questions about any of our choirs, please feel free to contact the Music Department or myself.
Many thanks go out to all our dedicated volunteers who make the magical music happen here at Hope. It truly does take a “Village” in the Music Department.
Blessings,
Cathy Daley, Council Member at Large & Music Department Liaison
