From "When will it end" to "Welcome home!"

What happens when you do all the right things to end your homelessness, but lose the waiting game anyhow?

Getting your name on the housing voucher list can seem like the final step in the often long journey out of homelessness. But what if there are no vouchers or units available? What if it takes months or even years for your name to be next in line? What if you're incarcerated for your homelessness and lose your spot on the list because being in jail is technically "housing"? What happens when you miss the phone call, or you don't have a phone, or when you call back, it's too late and your voucher's gone to the next person on the wait list?

Mary from Keys to Change works diligently at all Project Connect events to fill this crucial gap. As an expert in housing navigation, Mary uses the tools at her disposal to help people create healthier lives. In some cases, she's reconnected with clients who've continued to live on the streets, simply because they didn't know they were next in line for housing.

And the hard work has been paying off!

Meet Ericka (left) and Sarah (right) - both of whom met Mary at recent Project Connect events, and both of whom now have the keys to their new homes - with furniture on the way.

Congrats, Mary, for a job well done, and HUGE congratulations to Ericka and Sarah for completing the journey home!!

Keys to Change envisions a world in which there is no wait list, there is a state of functional zero. Learn more here.

Funder Highlight - Bank of America

Did you catch CEO Amy's hot take on the expectation on nonprofits to continually "do more with less"? Spoiler alert - there's a better way!

Homelessness is increasing. Funding is disappearing. At Keys to Change, we're as committed as ever to maintaining services for our most vulnerable neighbors.

So we're seeking funding partnerships with partners who "get it" - funders like Bank of America.

In the midst of uncertainty and growing need, Bank of America increased their grant award to Keys to Change - doubling down on their commitment to end homelessness. Thank you, Bank of America! This is what community care looks like.

Partner Highlight - Homeless ID Project

Homeless ID Project is a nonprofit headquartered at Key Campus whose mission is to "empower others to end their homelessness and rebuild their lives by providing identification replacement services."

At Keys to Change, we're grateful for their collaborative spirit and innovative ideas!

Pictured here are Homeless ID Project Executive Director Rick Mitchell and Keys to Change's Liz Roed at the recent Project Connect event - but the real star of the photo is the machine to their right.

Through an incredible partnership with the Arizona MVD, this machine is a mobile unit that allows Homeless ID Project to bring State ID replacement appointments on the road and to the people!

Thank you, Homeless ID Project, for your partnership and collaboration.
