| September 12, 2024: New Arrivals: Pulps Selections from the Robert A. Madle collection
Over the coming months, in addition to our other recently acquired material, we will be presenting pulps, books, and magazines from long time fan, collector, and dealer Robert A. "Bob" Madle. I was privileged to know Bob since I was a teenager, and I can still hear him telling me stories of the early days of science fiction fandom. It all started for Bob when he was eleven, when he and a friend came upon two issues of Wonder Stories in a junk shop. From then on he was hooked, using his extra money to buy more SF pulps. He actively started getting involved in the beginnings of science fiction fandom when he was 14-15 and remained involved in many aspects of science fiction for the rest of his life. Pulp magazines were particularly dear to him. In 1959 he and several others began "First Fandom" - a group of fans who were active before the first World Science Fiction convention held the July 4th weekend in 1939. He was the first President of the organization, a post he held for twenty-five years, and he was also the last surviving member upon his death. Check out the website for all the new pulp arrivals.
