Zoom Helpful Hints
Enjoy each other's company in one or all of our Zoom gatherings! We hope that this will be easy for you to do and offer some simple instructions here:

1.   If you already have the Zoom software, just click on the link provided for each gathering. In most cases, it will take you directly to the gathering.
2.   If you do not have Zoom installed, click on the link and you will be prompted to download and run it, a very fast process, you should then be taken to the gathering. (To save time, you can download and install it before the gathering by going to https://zoom.us/download. How the software is installed is dependent on the device or browser you are using.)
3.   If it is asking for the meeting ID number and password, enter those specific numbers and you will be taken to the meeting.

If you are hosting a Zoom gathering, it is helpful to have an assistant who can monitor the waiting room or handle any technical needs, while you, the host, can attend to the gathering.

Hosts and attendees: when the gathering is over, follow the prompts, click leave meeting and be sure to close out of Zoom, if you don't, people can still see or hear you! Be careful when you Zoom!

Sanctuary Church Update
Sanctuary Effort
Suspended Indefinitely

Covid-19 has changed almost everything, and this includes our plans to become a sanctuary church to protect an individual from deportation. As a congregation we spent months learning about and discussing immigration, and in May of 2019 we boldly voted to become a sanctuary congregation, something only a small number of churches in the country have decided to do. The church was electrified at the prospect of this hands-on social justice effort.

But as the pandemic has continued to hit our immigrant friends and neighbors the hardest, the immigrant leaders in ECCO have asked that we and our partner congregations use our time and resources to help as many people as quickly as possible rather than coordinate a massive effort to ensure the safety of one individual or family. For the time being at least, the church will end its effort to become a sanctuary congregation. The network we created and volunteers we have worked with already helped make the “No One Stands Alone” fundraiser for direct immigrant aid four times more successful than ECCO had first hoped—over $90,000 were raised. It also created new lasting relationships within our congregation and beyond. These are but a few examples of the legacy of our efforts.

Several church leaders are currently assessing in what ways we may be able to pivot to provide badly needed financial and other support for our immigrant neighbors. In addition, in the months ahead many in the church will continue to work with ECCO to fight for racial justice and to improve the lives of immigrants in our communities.

UUCGL Treasurer's Report

Some of you have been wondering about the financial impact on our Church of the pandemic and the resulting economic downturn. I am pleased to report that so far, from a financial perspective, we are weathering these difficulties well.

In May 2020 we received a loan of approximately $85,000 under the US government’s Paycheck Protection Program (“PPP”) to support the ongoing operations of the church during these times of economic uncertainty.

Event Request Forms Required

Reminder: the church building remains closed. Please do not enter the church building!

An event request form is available outlining steps that groups will need to take to meet on church property. You can download the form at https://tinyurl.com/UUCGL-Event-Request.

The task force is now meeting weekly on Thursdays to review request forms. Request forms should be submitted no later than the Monday prior to a meeting for consideration.

Please note that for the time being, all events must meet the following criteria: hosted by a UUCGL group (ministry team, board committee, etc.); outdoors without any access to the church building or equipment; no more than 25 pre-registered attendees at any one time; any children in attendance must remain with members of their immediate household, no childcare will be provided.

If you have any questions please contact task force member Mary Gatlin, mary.c.gatlin@gmail.com.

How to Support Your Church
Pledge Payments

Below are ways to make a pledge payment to the church. If you are finishing up your 2019-20 pledge, please mark in the memo line that it is for FY 2019-20.

There are three easy options of paying:

1.   Send your check to the church (101 Forest Avenue, Swampscott, MA 01907).
2.   Set up a bill-pay system with your bank and have the check sent to the above address.
3.   Donate online. To donate online, please go to our website (uucgl.org) and click “Donate” in the upper right-hand corner. After you fill in the information page, click “Submit.” You will then be offered options to pay through your PayPal account, if you have one, or through your credit card.

Thank you for your support!

Pastoral Care Ministry Team
The good news is that, presently, no one in our congregation, of the calls our Pastoral Team has been making, is symptomatic of the coronavirus. We count our blessings. Each of us is challenged not only by a barrage of information but also by creatively adapting to new ways of "life, as
usual." Feeling lonely? Need groceries? Got coping ideas to share? Is there a change in your contact info (since September)? Call 781-595-8836 ext 16.
