From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi
Dear St. Rita Parents/Guardians,
Today students in grades 3-8 were administered the first section of the NWEA MAP test. Despite some technical issues the assessment was completed in a timely fashion. Students in grades 3-8 will continue with the assessments on Friday and again next Wednesday. The students in grades 1 and 2 will take their first assessment tomorrow and the remaining one next week. The results of these will be shared with you at the upcoming October Parent-Teacher conferences. Please refer to the letter from our superintendent, Valerie Mara, as well as the Q & A sent out in last week’s newsletter if you have any additional questions. You may also refer to the nwea.org website to access the family toolkit for additional information.
We will have two Back to School/Meet the Teacher Nights this year. The date for parents with students in grades PreK 3-Grade 3, is tomorrow evening, Thursday, September 15 beginning at 6:00 P.M. in the gym and for parents with students in grades 4-8, the date is next Thursday, September 22 beginning at 6:00 P.M. in the gym. The presentations are in-person only and will include a welcome from our Pastor, Fr. Tiano, and an overview of the upcoming HSA events. This is a parent-only event; please leave your children at home.
Two reminders that I would like to bring to your attention concern parking on Dessa Drive and school start time. Please refer to the detailed map below which outlines the designated no parking zones on the side streets. In the past, the Hamden PD has ticketed cars which are illegally parked. Also, for students in grades K-8, school begins at 8:15 (8:30 for PreK). Those students who arrive after the bell are considered tardy. Students who arrive late miss out on many important beginning of the day activities and disrupt the flow of learning for their classmates. Please be sure your child is on time for school.
Our school wide theme for the year is The St. Rita Way-His Way----Rooted in Christ. What is the St. Rita Way you ask? It is to be a respectful, responsible, kind, helpful, honest, loving, and faith-filled student. We expect all our students to follow the rules in the classroom, in the lunchroom, and out at recess. Working together (parents, teachers, and students) we will continue to keep St. Rita School the place to be where the love of Christ is lived and shared.
It was great to see so many of our school families in church last Saturday before our welcome back picnic. A special thank you goes out to our HSA officers and Knights of Columbus members for providing us with the food and activities for the picnic. Over the next few weeks we will share the details of the Family Movie Night and Trunk or Treat Halloween celebration which the HSA is planning for our school families.
Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at Back to School/Meet the Teachers Night for parents with students in PreK3- through Grade 3. Enjoy the refreshing autumnal weather.
God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi
