Dear Carondelet Families,
College Counseling is excited to reconnect with returning families and welcome those who are new to our community. The College Counseling Team is here to guide and support students as they begin thinking about life after high school.
The college process can bring a mix of excitement and uncertainty, and our goal is to make it as clear, manageable, and positive as possible. We encourage students to apply to a diverse range of schools and celebrate all of our students’ acceptances. Rather than focusing on college names or rankings, we emphasize finding institutions that align with each student’s educational goals and family budget. The “best” college is ultimately the one that fits an individual student’s unique criteria. For those interested in exploring this philosophy further, we recommend Frank Bruni’s book, Where You Go Is Not Who You’ll Be.
Already this fall, College Counselors have held a variety of events such as college fairs, college rep visits, Lunch and Learns, and Cougar U college workshops, to support students of all grade levels. Coming up, there are even more opportunities for students to engage with College Counseling:
- New college rep visits are scheduled each week for juniors and seniors. Check Maia for an up-to-date list of who will be on campus.
- Every Wednesday, College Counselors host HOWL, Here on Wednesdays Late, where seniors can get help after school with college applications
-
Thursday, September 25, is our virtual Road to College event. Families can choose from a variety of college-related workshops, personalized to their own interests. Click here to view the workshop details and register.
-
Tuesday, September 30, is the first of six College Money Method presentations. Any senior family applying for financial aid should plan to attend. Register here.
Although the fall is heavy with senior events and support, we look forward to connecting with the other grade levels at various points throughout the year.
Regards,
Allison Bly
Director of College Counseling

Mass of Peace with Bishop Barber—Dress Expectations
When we welcome Bishop Barber, who represents both our local Church and the wider Catholic community, it is customary to present ourselves with reverence and respect. Across cultures, dressing formally honors the significance of an occasion. Just as we would for a wedding or graduation, we show care in how we present ourselves at Mass.
For this liturgy, students are asked to wear black or khaki pants, or if choosing a skirt, black tights, along with their white polo and navy sweater or blazer. This polished, intentional look reflects the dignity of the Mass and unites us as a community in celebration.
Students are expected to wear the full dress uniform when they arrive at school and for the duration of the Mass. If the weather is warm, students may remove their tights after Mass. Students may also remove their sweater or blazer outside during break or lunch.

First Progress Report Coming This Week
Progress reports will be released on Monday, September 15. These reports provide a snapshot of your daughter’s grades at this point in the quarter. They are not report cards, but rather a mid-quarter “temperature check” to see how things are going.
If your daughter is finding a particular class challenging, please encourage her to take advantage of the many resources available:
-
Teacher office hours for extra support,
-
PowerLab in the library after school where they have access to:
-
Our Academic and Learning Support team, who can help with organization and making the best use of study time
-
Peer tutors available to help in a variety of subjects
Extra Make-Up Test (MUT) Sessions
We have refined our MUT protocols this year to reduce the lag time between an absence and completing an assessment. To better accommodate student schedules, we’ve added new MUT sessions during Period 7 for juniors and seniors who do not have a 7th period class.
