THE GREAT LAGUNA CLEANUP - SATURDAY, 9/24

The Great Laguna Cleanup

Saturday, September 24, 2022

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Meet at the Americorps Trailhead, across from 200 Morris Street (The Barlow), Sebastopol. There is parking along Morris Street. Look for the signs.

It’s time to pull on gloves and grab a bucket to pick up trash along the Laguna! Help us clean up the Sebastopol Laguna Wetlands Preserve before the rain starts falling and washes trash into our waterways and ocean.

Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty. Please bring your own water bottle. Gloves, buckets and trash bags will also be provided. This event is suitable for all ages. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. We will provide snacks and refreshments.

Laguna Foundation staff and guides will also provide a dynamic and engaging educational component to the workday that will help volunteers learn more about the Laguna de Santa Rosa watershed, including the impacts of invasive species, the importance of native plants, and the natural and cultural history of the area. City of Sebastopol staff will be on hand to help us haul out all of the trash and recyclables.

For more information, please contact: Brent Reed, Ecological Program Manager - Phone: 707-527-9277 ext. 101, Email: brent@lagunafoundation.org

WATER CONSERVATION TIP OF THE WEEK

Water savings are urgently needed. See the City's Water Conservation page for actions you can take to reduce water usage and check out these indoor and outdoor water conservation tips from the Sonoma-Marin Saving Water Partnership.

Here's this week's tip to help you reduce your water consumption:

  • Never use the toilet to dispose of tissues or other trash. This can waste a great deal of water and also places an unnecessary load on the sewage treatment process. It's critical that we all do our part to save water.

EMERGENCY SAFETY & PREPAREDNESS

PREPARE YOUR FAMILY

Evacuation plans for families with young children should include helping toddlers understand how to quickly respond in case of fire, and how adults can escape with babies. Prepare ahead of time by practicing your family’s fire escape plan, and what to do to be safe when there is a wildfire nearby. It is important to talk to toddlers and small children at a level that they understand and that does not frighten. Click HERE for a few resources that offer guides and tips for families with young children about fire safety and preparing for a disaster.

Seniors and people with disabilities also need special consideration when preparing for a disaster. Click HERE for several resources that help individuals and families with special needs plan and prepare for an event such as a wildfire.
