Another great week at Peabody!
Focus on Technology
Focus on Technology

Peabody and teachers have started to use an application called Seesaw. Seesaw is a digital portfolio that allows students to capture learning with photos and videos of their work, or by adding digital creations. Everything gets organized into one place and is accessible to teachers from any device.

Ms. Fox recently used this technology with her first grade students. Students were asked to create a path between two numbers in four steps, using subtraction or addition. Check out  Miller explaining his equation using Seesaw to document his work.

 PPF HAPPENINGS
Thank you to everyone that attended the PPF meeting on Tuesday. Special thanks to Mr. Orlando and Diane Krehmeyer for joining us to discuss Peabody happenings. We appreciated hearing their visions and plans for the future of Peabody School.

Our next PPF meeting is October 26 at 6:30 PM - mark your calendars!

FRIDAY FROLICS
There are only three more Friday Frolic days left! We invite our K-2 kids and their families to join us on Fridays after school at Belmont Park from 3:15-4:00 (stay longer if you wish). Water and juice boxes provided. Please feel free to bring your own snacks.

Dates:  9/16 (last day for the spray park), 09/23, 09/30
We hope to see you there!  (Siblings welcome. Rain cancels.)

GROCERY CARDS
Some of our local grocery store chains offer their patrons the chance to help local schools. If you register your grocery store loyalty card, each time you shop for groceries Peabody School will earn a percentage of the total amount you spend.
This is FREE money that is given to Peabody to use as we wish. We can build a ‘bank of numbers’ and double our earnings each year. Eventually, with enough numbers, we could earn up to $30,000 per year in free money from grocery stores while we are doing our normal shopping! This program is completely free for you, but grocery store cards must be re-registered each year for our school to benefit.

BY SEPTEMBER 30, 2016:  Please enter your grocery store card numbers on the optional Grocery Store Card Form on the Parent Portal - THANK YOU!

PEABODY EVENTS
Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and bring the whole family out to join us for our first ever Movie Night Under the Stars!  The event is free - concession sales (popcorn, candy, treats) benefits the PPF.  Thank you for your support!

Panther Flash
The Panther Flash is up and running again this year!  For those of you who are new to Peabody, we have a student run news program that airs once a week.  Our 5th grade students are our news anchors and camera operators, and our 7th and 8th grade students are in charge of the editing.  You can access the news throughout the year through SmugMug. Our first episode should be available next week.

To access, you'll need both the link and the password.

This Week in Middle School...

Flame Wave Sypnopsis

Middle School students observed a Ruben's Tube made by Mr. Chain. A Rubens' tube has gas input on one end and a very thin membrane on the other end.  If a speaker is placed close to the membrane, the sound waves force the membrane to vibrate at the same frequency and these vibrations align the gas molecules inside the tube into a standing longitudinal wave with areas of high pressure and low pressure.  The resulting "flame wave" is an excellent way to visualize sound and learn about how sound waves work.

Service Learning

Middle school students will be participating in various service learning projects throughout the year both inside and outside of school, all during school hours. Service projects that take place outside of school include volunteering at Bellair Farm, the Loaves & Fishes food pantry and the Barrett Early Learning Center.

The Peabody School Store

The Peabody School Store opened today! 5th Graders operate the store every Friday from 8:00-8:30am. This year our inventory includes t-shirts, hats, water bottles, cups, stickers, buttons, erasers, and more. Costs range from $0.25 to $22.00. Please consider supporting our fifth grade class and their Peabody School Store!
