From The Pastor's Desk...

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.  Many folks have asked me about greetings - "what should I call you?"  Please feel free to call me Pastor, Wendolyn, Pastor Wen, or any mix of those.  The main thing is that I do hope you will call me and call on me as your pastor.  I continue to build up my place here in Tabernacle, and have added these connections:
-Cell phone:  856-242-0197 - available 24/7 though I do not answer while driving or visiting.
-Facebook:  while I do not "friend" members, please "like" my public page, @PastorWendolyn.  You can also visit my Page at https://fb.me/PastorWendolyn and send my Page messages at https://m.me/PastorWendolyn.
-Instagram:  Wendofish - younger folks rely on this app, so please encourage them to connect with me here!
I look forward to greeting you by name as I meet more of our community.  I am grateful for the ways that we can connect with and support one another!
Peace in Christ,
Pastor Wendolyn

Our current pre-recorded Sunday church service will be available for viewing starting at 6:00 AM on the Lord of Life YouTube website.  All will receive an email with a direct link to this site prior to the upcoming service, and a post will be created on the church's Facebook page that will also show you the YouTube location of the worship service video.  Use the links provided below to view the video of the service.
The current Sunday service video and previous ones will remain on our YouTube site for viewing at any time.

Helpful Hint:
If you have Comcast cable TV, did you know you might be able to easily watch the church service on your TV set?  Use the voice remote and say, "YouTube Lord Of Life Lutheran Church Tabernacle New Jersey."  This will take you to the LOL YouTube website.  From there, using the TV remote's "arrow" and "OK/Enter" buttons, click on the service image that you wish to view.  Please note that not all Comcast cable boxes and remotes will allow you to do this.

Parking Lot Worship Services To Begin!

On SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th at 9AM, Lord of Life will have its first, live on-campus worship service since March. The service will be held in the parking lot with congregants in cars parked every other space and broadcast via FM radio transmission.
Volunteers will direct traffic into the parking lot where smaller cars will be positioned closest to the church and larger vehicles will be in the back lot. Congregants will remain inside their cars.  Open air trucks and lawn chairs are not permitted in this stage of opening. Volunteers will ensure proper distancing and orderly compliance.
Bulletins will be emailed to the congregation.  Please print and bring with you to the service. For people without email, call the church to sign up and a bulletin will be available at the service.
We are ASKING FOR 5 VOLUNTEERS to help make the worship service successful.  Parking lot attendants will follow CDC guidelines.  They will direct traffic into and out of the parking lot as well as establish placement of vehicles according to size.  This will allow the congregants to see Pastor Wendolyn preach.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED In VOLUNTEERING for the September 27th service, PLEASE sign up using this link (spam safe):
Volunteers will need to be at the church prior to the start of the service at 8:30 AM to go over your duties/training. Thanking you in advance for volunteering.

ALL ARE WELCOME!!!! Looking forward to seeing
YOU!!!

This month, the classes will focus on the color red, art and music, All About Me, and the letters A and L. Our themes for September are: Apples, Leaves, Fall, and Seasons. The children look forward to meeting Pastor Wendolyn, and beginning our first Bible story about Creation. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to get the preschool ready.

LOL Goes Pink!
Breast Cancer Awareness And Fund Raising Event

Lord of Life is excited to partner in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides by sponsoring a team again for the annual event.  Unfortunately, instead of strutting down the boardwalk decked out in pink attire, this year, the annual event will be held virtually due to COVID-19.  "Making Strides: Virtually Younited" will air live on Thursday, October 15 at 7:00 PM on 6ABC's Facebook and YouTube Channels. Guest speakers, survivor stories, special musical artists, and more will be coming to a computer near you, and we can even wear pink PJs while watching!

Join Our LOLTeam Or Make A Donation

It would be wonderful for you to be a part of our team or make a monetary donation to The American Cancer Society.  By clicking on the link below, you are directed to our team's page (Lord of Life LC). Once there, you can help by scrolling down and making an online donation (in any amount) or join the team. You may even choose to dedicate a Strides Tribute Bag for a $10 donation.  This will light a candle in a loved one's honor or memory and LOL LC's team will get the credit. If you prefer, your donation by personal check can be mailed to the church office.  All donations are greatly appreciated! Please help us raise funds to celebrate survivors, remember those we've lost, and to fund the future for a world without breast cancer.

What Making Strides Is All About

Making Strides is a movement and the largest network of breast cancer events in the nation.  Money raised helps the American Cancer Society fund groundbreaking breast cancer research and also provides patient services like free rides to chemotherapy, free lodging near treatment sites, and a live 24/7 cancer helpline (800-227-2345).  Unfortunately about 279,100 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2020 - in both women and men.  So please join the Lord of Life LC team in the movement;  every contribution is important!

Project LOL:
A Report From Craig Baechler, Building And Grounds Church Council Representative

Although our church building has not been occupied for some months now, your staff and council have been busy addressing some much-needed maintenance items.   The following projects have been completed or are underway:
  • The church office and Pastor Trozzo's office have been rearranged and painted. Breanne's office has also been painted.
  • The kitchen was painted and painting the nursery will begin at the end of September.
  • On Monday, September 14th, painting of the sanctuary, Narthex, hallways, and Fellowship Hall started and should be completed by about the 22nd.
  • Security cameras have been installed to monitor the perimeter of the church and Faith Development Center (see photo below)
  • A new air conditioning unit and air handlers have been installed in the Fellowship Hall.
  • We are in the process of obtaining competitive bids for replacing our aging boilers and front entry doors, which are showing their wear after nearly 30 years of service

September 18th Update From Our Adult Ministry Leader, Janell Reich:

Upcoming And New Events! -

&
EN PLEIN AIR ART

Weather permitting, we hope to gather in September for a Bring-Your-Own Picnic, En Plein Air Art, and Game Day.
En Plein Air Art is potentially slated for Thursday, September 24th with artist Mary Stroup.  We will have supplies for sketching and colored pencils.
The BYO Picnic will be held at noon on Monday, September the 28th.  We will have a meet and greet with Pastor Wendolyn.  Bring your own lunch and chair and enjoy a time of fellowship.  Rain date is Tuesday, September the 29th.  For more information, contact Janell Reich.  A link to her email is at the end of the article.

Game Day -
Game Day was held Monday, August 31st.  We played Bible Mad Libs, fill-in-the-blank limericks, and 50's TV trivia.  Best of all, it was good to be together and share some laughs.
Game Day is being held 9:30 AM at a shady spot in the church parking lot.  The session date is weather dependent.  For more information, contact Janell Reich.  A link to her email is at the end of the article.

BYOB (Bring Your Own Bible) -
BYOB Bible Study continued delving into "You'll Get Through This" by Max Lucado.  This study focuses on the Old Testament story of Joseph and how God is with us in difficult times.  We try to meet on Wednesday mornings, but this can change depending on the weather.  For more information, contact Janell Reich.  A link to her email is at the end of the article.

Book Club -
Our Book Club met Friday, August 21st. Each of us shared what we have been reading. Always an informative time!
At the end of September, our discussion will be on "Jesus and John Wayne:  How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation" by Kristin Kobes Du Mez, published in 2020.  The date will hopefully be September 22nd or 29th, but is weather dependent.  For more information, contact Janell Reich.  A link to her email is at the end of the article.

The Lord Of Life Meditation Walk And Memorial Garden

Nestled in a wooded, peaceful area in the southeast corner of our church property is the LOL Meditation Walk and Memorial Garden.  You will find the 14 Stations Of The Cross along the Meditation Walk.  The Memorial Garden is the final resting place for the ashes of 22 deceased church members and members of their family.
The entrance to the area may not be obvious, but in the corner of the parking lot near the cell phone tower, look for two flower pots that define the path leading the area.  A short distance after entering the path, you will pass under the archway pictured above.  Cast metal plaques, depicting the Stations Of The Cross, line the way.  After a short walk, you arrive at the Memorial Garden.

A Brief History:
After our church building was completed, there was thought of having both the walk and garden.  In 1997, the Medication Walk was established.  Chuck Bubeck laid out a plan for the path, and it was built as an Eagle Scout project.  Chuck made and installed the Stations Of The Cross markers, and a guide booklet was created for use by those taking the journey on the walkway.  It contained biblical passages and prayers for each Station.  The original plaques were replaced several years ago with Chuck again doing the installation.  The new ones differ slightly and follow a more traditional depiction of the Stations Of The Cross.  A new guide booklet has yet to be written.
Prior to her death 2002, Lynn Kelly Odell, the sister of Barbara Wagner, requested that her ashes be spread along the Meditation Walk path.  Due to New Jersey regulations, this was not permitted.  However, this led to finally establishing the Memorial Garden.  Lynn's ashes were the first to be interred in our Memorial Garden.
Located near the archway is a bronze marker.  Its placement was requested by the family prior to the Memorial Garden being established.  There are no internments at the marker.

Internment Information:
Rules and procedures for internment in the Memorial Garden were established.  There are 40 internment sites in each of two areas set aside for that purpose.  You must purchase a burial site for $300.00, which will be used to provide perpetual care of the area.  Sites in the first area have all been sold.  The Memorial Garden is not a church budget item and is solely funded by burial site purchases and donations.  Barbara Wagner will gladly provide more detailed information, and the rules and guidelines on internment in the Memorial Garden.  A link to her email is below.

Christian Caring Center
September 18th LifeLines Update

On August 26th, an overflowing grocery cart full of nonperishable foods, bedding, personal care items, and school supplies was loaded into Dave Curl's car and delivered to the Christian Caring Center.  The next delivery will be Thursday, Sept. 24th at 11:00 AM.
Lord of Life has supported the missions of the Christian Caring Center (CCC) for many years.  We have provided sandwiches, non-perishable food, personal care supplies, bedding, clothes, school supplies and prayers. But what does the CCC do?
The CCC is located at 378 Lakehurst Road, Browns Mills, NJ in a converted house. There are only 4 paid staff members, one of whom is Director Madelyn Sutton. The center relies heavily on volunteers at their center and within the community, partnering with other agencies and churches. Basically, their mission is to minister to the homeless and low-income families including single moms, seniors, disabled persons and veterans.
The services provided depend on the needs of each person. Lunches are served at the center. Food is taken to the woods and motels. Food and clothing is distributed at their center. An effort is made to help clients grow in faith through prayer and connecting them to an area church. Job skills are learned through volunteering at the center. Councelors mentor clients to become self supporting and obtain housing. And a new project is to build micro-housing on a property adjacent to the CCC.
How can you help?  Pray for the CCC. Volunteers can help for one time, on a weekly basis or as a service project. Donate food or clothing, which we collect at church and take to the center each month. And of course they are always happy to receive monetary donations. For more information, check out their FaceBook page or their web site.  Links to these are provided below.

September 18th Update
Delivery Made!
Halloween Candy Needed!

This past week another car load of donated food and needed items was delivered to Bridge Of Peace.  Pastor Giselle expressed her deepest gratitude to Lord Of Life for our generosity.
With Halloween approaching, please consider making a donation of candy which will be given to the children.  We need to have any donations before Monday, October 5th.  Your donation can be placed in the container at the entrance to the FDC/Grace Place Building.
Our regular collection of food and toiletries is continuing. The special appeal for toiletry items such as the small bar soap, small shampoos, tooth brushes, tooth paste, wipes, disposable razors, etc. remains in place.
A black container to deposit your donations has been placed by the entry way to the FDC/Grace Place Building at the church campus.  It is near to the one for the Christian Caring Center and is labeled for Bridge of Peace.  All food should be non-perishable and will not need refrigeration prior to opening.
A list of other needed items can be found in a previous LifeLines issue.  A link is provided here:

Thank you to all who have contributed!

Piano & Organ Lessons
Have you ever been interested in taking piano or organ lessons?
Did you once take lessons and would like to try it again?
Now might be the perfect time to sign up!  There are three instructors in the area that are looking for new students.  In fact, the local chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) has a scholarship for pianists who are interested in trying the organ.  It pays for the first 10-15 lessons.  If you are interested, please contact Rick Krause by email or by phone (856-287-5328).

Any Positives In The Pandemic?:

Janell Reich contacted the Editors and suggested that we ask readers to share with all some positive things that they did during the pandemic. Our daily routines changed several months ago as we all coped with the "new normal" due to COVID-19, but many of us have accomplished much on the good side during this time. Suggestions of the kinds of things you might have done are listed below. Maybe you did something else along these lines.  If you have something to share, send the Editors an email.  We'll put a selection of what is told to us into the LifeLines.  We will not include your name unless you tell us that is OK.  Looking forward to hearing back from you and sharing your story!
