Gratitude to Catechist on Catechetical Sunday
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
This coming weekend, we celebrate Catechetical Sunday. Here at St. Martin of Tours Parish, on September 18 at the 10 AM Mass, in celebration of Catechetical Sunday, we will bless and commission our parish volunteers who proclaim the Word of God to children, teens, and adults as catechists in all of our parish faith formation programs.
Catechetical Sunday began in 1935, when Church published a document On the Better Care and Promotion of Catechetical Education. This document asks every country to acknowledge the importance of the Church’s teaching ministry and to honor those who serve the Christian community as catechists. A catechist is one who teaches in the name of the Church. It is an extremely important ministry in the church. Let us take time to acknowledge, appreciate and thank the catechists for their commitment in forming the future generation in faith.
As we begin our religious education year, please join me in thanking our parish catechists for sharing with others what God has given them. Let us also pray that the grace of the Holy Spirit continues to guide their hearts and lips so that they may remain in loving and praising of God.
If you are interested in joining our team of catechists for any of our faith formation programs – Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Children’s Catechetical Ministry, First Eucharist and Confirmation preparation, and Order of Christian Initiation – please contact Lerma Simpson at lerma.simpson@dsj.org or at (408) 294-8953 ext. 310.
Prayers and blessings,
Fr. Saj

Family Reflection
September 18, 2022 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Amos 8:4-7 • 1 Timothy 2:1-8 • Luke 16:1-13
“The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones.” -Luke 16:10
We are all called to be responsible in many areas of our lives. We are responsible for our chores, schoolwork, belongings, and relationships with family and friends. If we are trustworthy in handling each of these things, we will be ready for bigger situations in our life. For example, doing your chores well and doing them the first time you are asked builds trust with your parents. Your parents see that you respond to them, and they will know they can rely on you. (This also honors God because you are following the fourth commandment that tells us to obey our parents.) Let us ask God to give us the courage to always make the right choices, whether small or big.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, it is not always easy to make good choices. Please help us to do what is right, even when it is not easy. We want to please you with how we live our lives.
FAMILY REFLECTION: What are some of the “small things” I need to work harder at doing well?
