FROM PASTOR SARAH
Reflections for Sunday , September 22

Bob Dylan received a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Male in 1979 for the album on which you can find the song, "Serve Somebody". It is from what some call Dylan's "Gospel Era." Here are the words in the chorus:
You're gonna have to serve somebody, yes
Indeed you're gonna have to serve somebody
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody

If you have read Luke 16:1-13, his words will sound very familiar. Dylan quotes Jesus who warns his followers that they cannot serve two masters. Verse 13 reads, "You cannot serve God and wealth." It is interesting that in Dylan's song "wealth" becomes "the devil." Wealth is an idol that draws us away from God. In fact, it is in direct opposition to God.

+ What barriers do you have that keep you from serving only God?
+ If someone looked at your life from the outside, would they know that God is the one you serve?

Family Devotion  Read:  Luke 16:10-13

Bring it homeHere are some questions or activities to help you think and talk about the reading as a family.

+ Ask your parents what "faithful" means. Hint: they should include something about keeping promises and being honest.
+ God's love is the greatest gift in the world! We get to respond to God's love for us by serving God and serving others. Name 2 ways you can serve others.

Pray:  Consider lighting a candle or having a cross to look at while you pray. Have someone pray this prayer:

Dear God, Thank you for your love. Help us to make you the most important thing in our lives. Amen.
