PanIIT WHEELS Global Foundation, Capital IIT chapter and Habitat for Humanity also actively partnered with ASEI during the technical sessions and the evening banquet. ASEI is an organization of Indian-American engineers, scientists and technologists. The PanIIT members are heartily invited to join! Please visit us at www.asei-ncc.org. The theme of the convention was "Innovative Technologies: An Engine for Economic Growth" which parallels very much the vision outlined by President Obama for the country over the past five years. We believe that many of such innovative technologies can be extensive contributors to the economic growth in the country, be they in energy, healthcare, information technology, nanotechnology or space. The Indian-American community is very much at the forefront of these avenues having been pioneers and inventors of many such incipient and innovative technologies. NASA Administrator General Charles Bolden gave the Keynote speech at the banquet where he spoke of the contributions the Indian-Americans are making at NASA and in space activities, and the cooperation between India and US following his recent trip to India. Dr. Loh, President of UMD, gave the welcoming speech. Several Indian-American elected officials from Maryland also addressed the audience as did many Administration officials from the White House and the Dept. of Commerce. All went away with a renewed perception of how the Indian-American community continues to contribute extensively to our adopted land. Report prepared by Dr. Ajay P. Kothari President, Astrox Corporation

Avik Pal arrived in San Francisco in August of 1999, excited about the new horizons-literal as well as professional-that stretched out before him, though anxious about leaving India for the first time. The fabled natural beauty of California's San Francisco Bay Area and the Golden Gate Bridge that spans where the bay embraces the Pacific Ocean only served as poignant reminders that the 23-year-old was worlds away from his previous life in Kharagpur. "It was not easy in a new country," recalls Pal. As homesickness threatened to get the better of him, Pal, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur, instinctively reached out to a familiar source of comfort: fellow IITians.

September 25, 2013

As humans evolved from stone-age to now, every generation must have seen something big happening in their life-time - in various aspects of life. I belong to a generation that has seen great developments in media and technology across sectors.

That was a time, when there used to be a countable number of televisions in a city - and standing on the roof-top, one could know who all owns them. In tier II cities, an engineer used to travel from a nearby big city and stay for a day of two to fix problems with the television, if any.
