Proudly enriching Fairfax County Parks since 2000

Featured FCPA Friends Group

The Friends of Burke Lake Park was established in 2016 and are dedicated to supporting the park through community volunteer and fundraising activities.  Working collaboratively with the Fairfax County Park Authority, the Friends are committed to helping maintain the beautiful grounds, facilities, and amenities that make the park a unique natural resource in the county.
The organization is a volunteer organization open to all community members. Proceeds raised by Burke Lake Park will directly benefit this extremely popular and well-loved park!

United Way and Combined Federal Campaigns

Since 1974 the  United Way of the National Capital Area has mobilized community resources to create lasting, positive impact that transforms lives.   This year the theme for the Combined Federal Campaign is Share Some Love.  Fairfax County parks are well used and are need in some tender loving care. Making a contribution  through payroll deduction allows donors to give a little bit each pay period which becomes a significant contribution at the end of the year.

This fall please
designate the Fairfax County Park Foundation to receive your contributions in the annual giving campaigns.   Regardless of the size of your contribution, every donation is needed, supports our parks, and is greatly appreciated!

Mentioning to your co-workers that you are supporting the Park Foundation is another gift you can provide. Be sure to check and see if your employer has a matching gift program.

Thanks to all donors from the 2015 CFC and United Way campaigns for contributing $15,123 designated for FCPF!

68th Annual Fairfax County 4-H Fair

Last month the Park Foundation was again pleased to support the 4-H Fair.  Bonnie Butler, a Park Authority employee, gave a generous donation to the fair which supports the continuing 70-year tradition of 4-H in Fairfax County.

Royal Lake Outdoor Fitness Gym

On Saturday, September 10th, Braddock District Supervisor John Cook, Tony Vellucci of the Fairfax County Park Authority Board, the Fairfax County Park Foundation, the Friends of Royal Lake and the Kings Park West Civic Association celebrated the opening of a new Outdoor Fitness Gym at Royal Lake. Enjoy this feature near the basketball court located at 5344 Gainsborough Dr, Fairfax, VA 22032.

The Friends of Royal Lake worked diligently for more than 2 years to raise funds for the new outdoor exercise equipment.  Their fundraising netted more than $12,600 from 21 community members, businesses and civic associations.  Their efforts were matched by a FCPA Mastenbrook grant.  The outdoor exercise equipment donors are recognized on a plaque near the new equipment.

Generous Gift from Jean and Ric Edelman
 for Roll Top Observatory

With the help of a very generous donation from Jean and Ric Edelman the Park Authority was able to build and furnish a roll top observatory building at Observatory Park at Turner Farm.  The financial services radio talk show host  was reminded of his childhood fascination with astronomy when someone gave him a 10-inch telescope to commemorate his 40th birthday.  Edelman and his wife and business partner, Jean, share a passion for astronomy and are deeply committed to sharing the knowledge with younger generations.

The Edelmans substantial contribution to the Fairfax County Park Foundation to fund Observatory Park is greatly appreciated. They will join Analemma Society members and other supporters at the  ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 AM on October 1, 2016.  The park is located at 925 Springvale Road in Great Falls, VA.

2016 Selfie Winners

During  July's Park & Recreation Month the Park Authority held a contest for the best Selfies taken in one of Fairfax County's 427 parks.

Of the many entries submitted, two of the winning 'selfies' are pictured below.  Winners were awarded prizes from FCPA including a Nature Gift Basket, Fitness Package and Group Fun Package.

Look for next year's opportunity to share a Selfie in your favorite park!

 Burke Lake Park Multi-year Campaign
Early this year the Park Foundation committed to helping build two new picnic shelters, one indoor classroom and a Campitheater at Burke Lake. Our multi-year campaign to raise funds to help improve Burke Lake Park is off to a good start but we still need YOUR help!
The cost of the first picnic shelter is approximately $220,000 and we have raised nearly 20% of the funding needed to begin construction. With your support, we can make the first new picnic shelter a reality!

Please help us improve Burke Lake for generations to come by making a donation today! Your donation of $1,000, $500, $250, $100 or $50 to the Burke Lake Park Improvement Campaign will help ensure that more people will be able to enjoy this wonderful park!   Every donation will bring us closer to educating more children about stewardship and the environment, providing campers with a theatre for ceremonies and activities, and having more shelters close to the children's area.

Playing at Burke Lake is a tradition for thousands of families. Select Burke Lake Park and make an on-line donation today to help ensure that future generations will come to love Burke Lake Park for many years to come!

Lowe's Supports Burke Lake Park

On August 24th, employees from the Lowe's Store # 3274
located at 4080 Jermantown Road in Fairfax volunteered their time and expertise at the popular Burke Lake Park.

Lowe's helpful associates assisted staff at Burke Lake Park with installation of a fence around Picnic Shelter C.  Lowe's also provided the building materials at a greatly reduced price as a way of supporting the community that they serve via their local park.

Wait - there's more!
