President's Message
Fourth quarter is HERE.  Before the crazy schedules and demands of the season consume your calendars, please plan to join your colleagues for networking, collaborating, and story-telling.  Remember laughter is an amazing drug.  
Your Chapter is hard at work bringing you timely information throughout this election period.  Check out all the activity and be sure to thank all the volunteers who are making this chapter the best that it can be. 

Annual Golf Outing Fundraiser - Was a HUGE Success!!  Thanks to the hard work of our Golf Outing Committee.  This team, led by Jeff Fabini and Dotty Wiggin, supported by Ava Lillmars, Tammi Meeks, Justin Finton, Bill Hartman, Dianne Schaffner, and Ruste Pontenberg delivered a memorable event. 
Thank you to all of the golfers, sponsors, committee members and volunteers for a wonderful day of golf, fun, laughs, and giving.  Our Public Service committee presented a check to Erin's House during Monday's meeting.  Check the website for pictures. 

IN State Chapter AHU Symposium:
All members are encouraged to attend the September 27-28, 2016 State Symposium.  In addition to hearing outstanding experts speak on current topics and receiving continuing education credits, there will be an evening social, an awards & recognition breakfast, and a day focused on leadership.  I hope you will take the time to enjoy this two day event.  Please visit the website for more details.   

PROGRAMS:
At our September 19th meeting had the opportunity to hear from Senator Banks, Past State President David Berman, and make a generous donation to Erin's House.  Thank you to PHPNI for sponsoring this program.

In addition to our membership meeting October 17th, 1 hour CE with Mark Rogers of Delta Dental, we will host Two LIVE NAHU webinars.  Janet Trautwein, NAHU Executive Director, will be speaking to us on October 5th at noon and again December 1st at noon. Both webinars will be held on the Lutheran Campus in the Kachmann Auditorium.  These webinars will provide pre-election and post-election commentary and are free to our members and their guests.  These webinars will be worth 1 hour of CE each.   

Upcoming Special Events:
Legislative Meet & Greet - October 10, 2016 at Chop's Restaurant.  Our Legislative and Political Action Committees are actively planning this opportunity for our members to meet our representatives and for our officials to meet Northeast IN AHU.  Please plan to attend this free event and show your support.  For more details contact Nancy Blake or Denny Wright.   Holiday Celebration - December 20, 2016 at Hotel Fort Wayne.  Back by popular demand, an evening event where you and a guest are invited to celebrate our chapter's success and the close of the year.

Erin's House
Erin's House for Grieving Children is our featured nonprofit for the month of September.  

The cost-free programs provided by Erin's House help to reach those children/families in need of grief support. Since opening in October 1993, Erin's House has served more than  17,000  individuals. Erin's House now serves and average of  1,200  individuals each year. Erin's House receives no government funding and relies solely on the generosity of the community, foundations, service clubs, organizations and individual donations. We welcome children regardless of their family's financial circumstances.

LPRT - The Facts
No, we aren't talking about the Ladies' Professional Racquetball Tour, but if you Google LPRT, that's what you'll find first!  This acronym, in our world, stands for Leading Producer's Round Table.  Here are a few facts about what it is:
  • LPRT formed in 1942 to recognize the successful underwriters of Accident and Health Insurance.
  • There are two ways to qualify: by income, or by categories.  Categories include personal production, carrier representative, agency, or carrier management.
  • It's not just about another designation, being an LPRT member gets you access to additional training, extra workshops, exclusive networking, and discounts to NAHU events.

HUPAC Updates
HUPAC keeps a detailed list of key issues they are monitoring on a federal level.  To see the status of that list, please click HERE to be directed to the NAHU Federal Action Center.  Did you miss an Operation SHOUT?  You can respond to them (if you haven't already) from the Federal Action Center as well. 

DID YOU KNOW?

How does the HUPAC money get from NAHU to members of Congress/Senators?
- The HUPAC board and NAHU staff at the beginning of every election cycle (every two years) puts together a budget together to decide what members of Congress to give to. The criterion on this depends on what committees they sit on, how they have voted in the past, and if they are in leadership. The HUPAC Board has final approval on this budget. The Board does make changes throughout the year depending on what's happening legislatively. The money is delivered in DC by NAHU staff and its professional lobbyists and in local districts by NAHU members.
 
How much do they get and how often?
- The legal limits are 10k an election cycle but HUPAC on average gives about $3k to members. Usually this money is given in $1k increments to further the exposure of NAHU with members of Congress. Depending on the ranking of each member and how helpful they have been to NAHU they may get more or less.
 
When we (NAHU HUPAC) give money to members of Congress/Senators what is our success rate for those who are elected to serve?
-Last election cycle we had a success rate of 91% of giving money to the winning candidate.


Last month, the funds that HUPAC utilitzes was highlighted.  Our HUPAC team is just finishing a telethon to drum up financial support - if you'd like to contribute, you can contact our local HUPAC team, Nancy Blake or Denny Wright.

State Leadership Summit
Registration is OPEN for the State Leadership Summit in Indianapolis September 27 and 28th.  Four CE credits are approved for the event, with additional credits pending.  Click on this LINK for more information.
Region 3 Membership Contest
Do you know a prospective member?  If so, Region 3 is having a membership contest. There are two ways to win:

1.  Anyone joining by bank draft between September 1 and November 30 will be entered into a drawing for a $250 gift card.  There are 14 potential winners in this category!

2.  Anyone renewing and changing from annual renewal to bank draft in that same time frame will be entered into a drawing for a $250 gift card.  There are 14 potential winners in this category as well.  

That's a total of twenty-eight $250 gift cards being given away!  In addition to this, all 28 winners will be placed in another drawing to win a $500 gift card.  

Drawing will take place early in December.
