Month of Our Lady of Sorrows

Catechizing for a Just World

Together, you and Pope Francis can lead the world in helping migrants and refugees.
Pope Francis is being joined by bishops across the U.S. and around the world in launching a global campaign to support our brothers and sisters who have fled their homes seeking a decent and safe life for their families. This historic campaign, "Share the Journey," will respond to some of the most desperate of God's children and your leadership and inspiration is needed.
You can help your diocese, parish, school or other organization participate in the "Share the Journey" campaign along with Pope Francis, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Catholic Charities USA, and the Church's global charitable network, Caritas Internationalis. Through prayers and acts of compassion and support, you can help shape conversations and actions to answer the Gospel call to love our neighbors.

Dear Friends,

It is our sincere hope that your summers were restful and rejuvenating! With the catechetical year upon us, we look forward to providing you with exciting opportunities to celebrate your students, as well as opportunities to celebrate with and learn from one another.  Please take the time to read the latest study from the sociologists that brought us the National Study of Youth & Religion. Christian Smith and Justin Barkus have just published theri latest findings on the important role of parents. A Report on American Catholic Religious Parenting gives us great insight into what works and how parents fail in raising children with faith.

      "Living as Missionary Disciples"

Ministry with Gen Z and their Families

The Center for Ministry Development is excited

to announce a new workshop series for 2017

Saturday, October 14, 2017
10:00 am to 3:00 pm
Cathedral of SS. Peter & Paul Parish Hall, Providence

Just as we are getting used to the Millennials, along comes Generation Z, which includes youth born between 1995 and 2010, mostly to Gen X parents.  These young people are tech savvy, social innovators, and are anxious to create a customized way to belong and contribute.  We can accompany this generation by listening, learning and responding. We can create pathways and onramps for Gen Z youth so that we can share the Good News and include their many gifts and their seemingly boundless energy.  We can also make a faith connection with Gen X parents that could spark faith growth for the whole family.
This workshop will share the research about Gen Z youth and their families along with effective ways for parishes to engage youth and their families. We will include practical ideas and starting points within these topics as we explore the ministry implications for youth ministry, catechesis, sacramental preparation and parish life:
  •  Listening to and Walking with Gen Z Youth
  • Engaging their Parents and Families
  • Making it Personal through Relationships and Formation
  • Empowering the Innovators - Letting their Faith Soar
  • Transforming Ministries and Creating New Pathways
