September 2017
President's Message                Next Meeting is Friday September 1st 9:15 AM

We complained about a 'soft start' to the year (weather wise) but you can't complain about our last two plus months - WOW! For those who love the heat, July and August didn't disappoint, but maybe we could have done without the smoke and maybe enjoyed a little more (should I say it) rain. And then there was that solar eclipse....... although we were only in the 85% totality range, it was unbelievable.
September launches another season for us and there's so much to get caught up on from this summer. Make sure you mark your calendars for all the adventures Kim has in store for us.

General Meeting Speaker - September 1st
Terri Mack:  Connecting You with the Indigenous World

- First Nation challenges continue to be important issues in Canada but former
and proposed solutions don't seem to alleviate the problems.  Why is this?
 - What are the differences between "On the Reservation and Off the Reservation" rights for First Nations people?
- What is the entitlement of a "Status Card" of a First Nations person?
These are only some of the questions Terri Mack from Strong Nations will be answering in her myth-busting presentation to us on September 1st.  Come out to hear her, be prepared for surprises and be sure to bring your questions!

REPORT ON THE APPETIZER EXTRAVAGANZA - Wednesday, August 23rd

35 Probus members enjoyed a beautiful afternoon with good food, good friends and a lovely ocean breeze.

REPORT ON JULY SPEAKER: Isobel Mackenzie, Seniors' Advocate for BC

"Who are these Seniors and what do they want?" These are the questions asked by policy makers and politicians.  Isobel Mackenzie's job is to reach out to BC seniors, assess their needs (present and future) and act as a liaison with the government so that these needs are met insofar as possible.
On July 7th PROBUS members heard a tell-it-all, realistic and often upbeat presentation about what they can expect in their future years.
