SEPTEMBER  - 2018

Greetings from the farm!

It has been a busy and rewarding month at Frogtown Farm. We have shared produce with community at Market Saturdays, developed friendships with neighbors through Community Farm Nights, and co-hosted our largest Harvest Fest event yet!

As the season changes from summer to fall, it coincides with a change in leadership at Frogtown Farm. We are thrilled to welcome Dave Colling as our new Executive Director this week!

We look forward to seeing you on the farm for a few more Market Saturday and Community Farm Night events as our season comes to a close. Stop by and see the farm in all its beauty!

The third annual Harvest Fest, co-hosted with Frogtown Green, was a huge success!

We have many groups and individuals to thank for the success of the event:
The Trust for Public Land for their financial and logistical support;  Saint Paul College Culinary Arts program for preparing a delicious harvest stew and supporting the event;  Erin Pavlica for serving as Harvest Fest Coordinator;  Frogtown Green for co-hosting and arranging so many incredible activities at the event;  All who volunteered to flyer, set-up, host exhibits, and tear down the event. We could not have done it without you!

We have some fun event statistics to share with you! At Harvest Fest 2018, there were:
  • 1000 event attendees
  • 600 bowls of Harvest Stew served
  • 400 horse-drawn wagon riders
  • 313 cotton candy servings
  • 230 bunches of collards given away
  • 30 tomato varieties sampled

Thank you to everyone who showed their support for the community and the farm by attending Harvest Fest!

Up On The Farm

Fall is setting in on the farm, and that means welcoming new Farm and Education interns! We are happy to welcome Eli C., Elysse, Natasha, Eli M., and Clare to the Frogtown Farm team.

We have just two Community Farm Nights left this season! Our Tuesday evening Community Farm nights are a fun way to get involved on the farm. Neighbors who attend Community Farm Night on Tuesday, October 2nd from 5-7:00pm will be mulching beds and taking on other tasks to help put the farm to bed for winter. On Tuesday, October 9th, we will be hosting an end of season potluck!  V isit  our website  or the   Facebook event page   for more Community Farm Night information.

We continue to harvest crops and distribute produce through Feeding Frogtown on Friday afternoons and at our Market Saturday events each weekend. Our farmstand produce is accessible to all with "pay-as-you-can" pricing. We also accept EBT, offer double market bucks, and have free PoP tokens for kids to do their own shopping.

It is an abundant time on our farm as we're in the middle of harvesting and also beginning to cover crop our fields to protect them over winter. This week, we are planting garlic on the farm. Garlic is unique in that it is planted in the fall, instead of in the spring like most other crops!

Welcome, Dave!

Help us welcome Dave Colling, new Executive Director of Frogtown Farm, at the September 29th Market Saturday event. Dave will be doing a meet-and-greet from 10am-1pm, so please say hello and welcome Dave to Frogtown!
