Hillcrest's Annual Harvest Festival

In just a few weeks, on Oct 6 ^th , we will celebrate our children and youth with the annual Hillcrest Harvest Festival event. Harvest Festival is two-fold in purpose.

First, this is a day of celebration! The residents, along with community friends and our entire Hillcrest family, will enjoy a cookout, fun games and activities on the campus. Secondly, Harvest Festival is a special time for friends and partners to help us replenish the “storehouse” in order to meet the needs of deserving Hillcrest children.

Historically, people would use this day to bring physical items to our campus as donations. This year, our Harvest Festival goal is to raise $25,000! If you'd like to help us reach this goal, you can click below to donate.

Perfect Weather for Bike Riding

Thanks to our generous donors, every child on our campus has the opportunity to get out and ride bikes while the weather is so nice. Any time school is out, it is likely you will see a cottage or two outside.

Our sibling group in Newby loves their bikes. When they arrived, they could hardly wait for elbow and knee pads to get out and ride. George*, 6, and his sister Nancy*, 4, are learning to ride their bikes without training wheels. The youngest is learning to ride a tricycle and the two older siblings ride as hard and as fast as they can until dark!

Other cottages that are riding their bikes almost every day are Anthony, Netzel and Anderson 1.

Betty's* 10th Birthday

Betty* jumps between being a tomboy and a girly girl. She loves riding her bikes and hanging out with her cottage.

Sometimes we don't think about how significant a child's birthday can be when they are away from home. It may be their first birthday without their biological parents or it may be the first birthday they've ever truly celebrated. There are various things that go into how a resident may feel about his/her birthday, but here at COMP ACT, we want it to be special.

When asked how they planned to celebrate the day, Betty's* houseparents spilled, "Abby [houseparent] is going to take her to get a pedicure, just the two of them. We are making chocolate chip pancakes in the morning and then inviting the whole campus to a huge party with ice cream cake in the gym." And that is exactly what they did.

Betty* had a day full of celebrating her; she loved spending one-on-one time with her houseparent, but also had a blast with her cottage and other COMPACT residents at her birthday party.

At COMPACT, we strive to make every resident's birthday special.

Birthdays are a big deal to our residents here at COMPACT. Sometimes we get to throw a child their first birthday party ever. Sometimes it is hard to spend a birthday apart from their biological family. Below is a list of upcoming birthdays on our campus. Please consider sending a card of encouragement to uplift and brighten a child's birthday.

*In order to protect the identity of our residents, the names listed above are pen names. Pen names reflect actual children on our campus and have been chosen by each resident when they come to COMPACT.
