September 2018 Issue

CPWC will celebrate its 50th anniversary
 February 2020!

We had such fun planning this year with our CPWC friends and neighbors. We're very excited!  The theme for this year is "Hope" and you will find that it resonates throughout our activities, plans and especially our charity. Hope is defined as an expectation that something good will happen and we certainly have an abundance of that hope for this year. Even more, hope is strong and capable... accompanied by encouragement, support and action. It just seems to embody our group!

Last week we hosted the Newcomer's Event and were delighted to meet many new neighbors. We are fortunate to have an interesting and diverse group as neighbors and soon-to-be friends. One guest moved back to the area after moving in town for many years!  And we met a most adorable and conversant young man of four years who likely knows the difference between cumulus and cirrus! If you know of a neighbor that we may have missed, please contact Regina Wood  or Cindy Formica . We are beginning a Newcomer's Group and would love to include anyone interested.

This Friday, September 7 at 7pm Judge Plichta will be our host for First Friday at his home. Come with an appetizer to share and a beverage for this casual and festive time to connect! Click here for details.

Next Friday, September 14 starting at 10:30am, is our Opening Luncheon at Atlanta Country Club! The club has been newly redecorated and the chef has created a luncheon menu specifically for our group. We have a very full and fun plan for our time together, including a fashion show by Drake's Closet featuring modeling help from our own membership. Christina Cummings has agreed to come to explain the role that Kidz2Leaders plays in helping to guide and support children and their families in our area. RSVP now!
  • We will be accepting donations at the Luncheon of non-perishable food items in support of Drake's Closet and of new or gently used camp and swim clothing (towels, adult sized basketball shorts, adult sized modest bathing suits) for Kidz2Leaders.
We will share specific plans for Daytime and Evening Programs. And we will share and welcome interest and participation in our ever-changing Interest Groups!

Interest Group meetings will begin this month.  It's a fun time to get together now that school is well underway!  Please feel very welcome to attend just one meeting, hike, or program without committing to monthly attendance.

If you have new ideas, please feel welcome to bubble them up and share your view. Our goal is to make this CPWC better for everyone and we welcome fresh ideas!

New2018 New Neighbor Welcome

The 2018 New Neighbor Welcome, held Sunday August 26th, captured the spirit of our neighborhood as we welcomed the most recent to have chosen this area to call "home." Janet and Lance Thomas hosted the event and Aurielie Barrial made it extra-special by baking delicacies for all the guests to enjoy.

CPWC President Janet Thomas shared, "The CPWC allows for many ways to become closer to the neighborhood.Whether looking for a playgroup, a hiking group, or a bridge club...there is something for everyone."

The event was also a time to hear from community leaders, Commissioner Bob Ott and Chairman Joe Gavalis who spoke about the area's history, future plans, and special highlights.

We had 17 new neighbors attend and those that did, had ties to Brazil, France, CO, VA, DC,SC, FL, TN, TX, OH, GA....and more! Many will be coming to our open luncheon, so please make them feel welcome.

This year, we are adding a follow up step to our neighborhood welcome. A CPWC member will follow up with our newest neighbors to answer questions or facilitate a path to plug into areas of interests.
