Pastor Berg's Blog
The FLC staff finally were all together in one place after a summer of vacation, retreats, and mission trips. We sat around the table and realized that it was great to be all together AND that it was a sign that the program year was just about to commence.

FLC Vision Team August 2018 Meeting
The FLC Vision Team is planning cottage meetings in October for conversations about opportunities for ministry, congregational values, facilities, assets, programs and staffing. To get a picture of our community, some of us are collecting demographic information about the Bothell area (statistics concerning racial background, average income, cost of living, educational level, etc.) This kind of information is important as we consider future avenues of ministry. We hope to hear from many FLC members, to get a good feeling for the breadth of thoughts and desires that we all have. If you are able to host one of these meetings, please contact Valarie Cole (valariejcole@gmail.com or 206-817-4799).

The church council established a Parish Leadership Team of Carsten Thode and Kathy Konieczka at their June meeting. Carsten and Kathy will work with Kenmore’s Northlake Lutheran Church and our Chinese partners to identify opportunities for ministry collaboration (for example, FLC members provided meals for the North King County Winter Shelter at Northlake Lutheran Church last fall).

Our goal is to launch wide-ranging conversation that involves FLC members, nearby Lutheran congregations, and community. All findings will be recorded, so a final mission plan can be presented to the congregation in Spring, 2019.

Please direct questions to any of the Vision Team members (Valarie Cole, Kaaren Hatlen, Jessica Lichtenstein, Joe Siebert, Ryan Stute, Karen Thomas, and Tom Payne – chair) or Parish Leadership Team members (Carsten Thode, Kathy Konieczka). Pastor Berg and our parish consultant, Pastor Rouse are working with both groups and happy to speak with you as well.

Please pray about these matters and be prepared to share your thoughts about where God is leading First Lutheran Church.
Thank you,
The FLC Vision Team

You may want a book to finish out your summer reading. Here is the list of five books selected by Linda for September’s book theme: Exploring Our Faith.
Look for the small tag in each book summarizing the theme of the book i.e. Days of Awe and Wonder—the tag says “ Christian theologian Marcus Borg reminds us to keep an open mind as we explore what it means to be Christian”

Scrip and Other Passive Fundraising for First Lutheran Church!
We have several opportunities for earning money while you shop for FLC's many social ministry programs:
  1. Buy Scrip on Sunday mornings or sign up for Shop with Scrip. Many vendors are available for instant purchase and redemption from your mobile phone in the Shop with Scrip program. No more writing checks; the money is automatically deducted from your checking account using Presto Pay. (The profit margin for scrip is not great enough to support credit card payments.) Scrip returns anywhere from 3 - 12% of your purchases to FLC! You can buy grocery cards, movie tickets, Amazon, even Groupon - the list is great!
  2. Sign up for Amazon Smile and name First Lutheran Church as your charity. Every time you shop with Amazon Smile FLC receive .05% of your purchase price. You can still use Amazon Prime. Get your kids to sign up, too!
  3. Link your Fred Meyer rewards card to their Community Rewards program for First Lutheran Church. All of your purchases will result in a quarterly donation to FLC.
  4. Sign up for Bartell's B Caring Program, and name First Lutheran Church as your charity.
Thank you!
Dear First Lutheran Family,
