"RE:VIEW: An Allegory of Women"
...through Saturday, September 29

Ricardo Osmondo Francis described the opening of "RE:VIEW: An Allegory of Women" at The Collective as a family reunion as well as a showcase for his new vibrant art works.

The 42-year-old native Houstonian has been living and working in New York City for several years and is always happy to return to the Third Ward where he still has many friends and family. Francis graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in 1994 before attending the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Md., where he received a BFA in 1998 in painting.

Francis introduced the artfully displayed paintings during his artist talk at the August 25 reception. In this show Francis explores the theme of women as a subject of contemplation.

"I think of canvases as mental chalkboards," he said.

"While I have a theme in mind, I want to leave room for people to come up with their own description and respond in their own way."

"Portia/Portrait of the Artist's Mother,"
Portia Francis
was created as a homage t o his
mom.  "I didn't put it on Facebook or anywhere else," Francis said, "so that it would be a surprise when she saw it at the reception."

The exhibit is on display at The Collective, 4101 San Jacinto, Suite 116, through September 29. The Collective is open Thursdays through Saturdays, from 12 noon until 5 p.m. and by appointment.
