In reflecting on
that day we call 9/11,
let us remember the perished and their families
and their friends and the country left behind.
We are not united seventeen years after that catastrophic day.
We have given in to the rhetoric of fear and hatred.
As we remember, let us be alert to the power resident within us
to make this a land of hope and promise, justice and peace."
-- Michael Bledsoe, pastor,
Riverside Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.

We pray alongside...

All who are in the path of Hurricane Florence . We pray for safety and security for all persons who are faced with evacuation, the loss of property and flooding. We also pray for the welfare of all animals -- pets, wildlife and livestock, for whom flooding endangers their habitat and their well-being.

Clinton Bennett , N.Y., recovering from bypass surgery at a rehab facility in Kingston, N.Y.. He represents the Alliance at the National Council of Churches on the convening table on interreligious relations and collaboration.

Sandra Dorsainvil , Natick, Mass., as she and her family grieve the passing of her father, Polynice Dorsainvil, on July 25th. He was 99 years old and died in his home country of Haiti after a long illness. He served as a United Nations representative global servant in economic and agricultural development in several African countries and Italy from 1963 to 1983.

Dennis Darak , Milford, Conn., the father of Lisa Darak-Druk, Westbrook, Maine, who is being treated for unstable blood oxygen levels as well as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The former board member seeks prayers for both her dad and her mother, Judy, at this challenging time.

Lewis Ford , Morrisville, N.C., as he faces serious health challenges. He is the father of Stephanie Ford, minister of Christian formation, Binkley Baptist Church, Chapel Hill, N.C. Stephanie seeks prayers for her father as they add to God's love and healing work in him.

Susan Humerickhouse Lepore , N. Scituate, R.I., invites us to add our prayers to hers for her mother, that as her mother's knowledge of names and faces slips away, the knowledge that she is  loved by many and by her Creator will remain. Susan is a member of First Baptist Church of America, Providence, R.I., and participated in the Alliance partnership trip to the Republic of Georgia in May.

Kevin Rose, minister of discipleship and mission of Alliance congregational partner Cumberland First Baptist Church, Indianapolis, Ind. has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is in hospice care.

Pini Kidulah , director of Active Hope partner Jitokeze Wamama Wafrika , Kenya, shares they are experiencing more rain than normal with flooding in some regions of the country, and farmers are worried about losing crops due to too much damp and rot. There is worry the ministry may lose part of the crop due to the extreme rain, and this would make it difficult to have enough to feed the students in next year's program.

Betty Langston , Clinton, Tenn., has been recently hospitalized. She is the mother of Ken Booker Langston, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) representative to the Alliance board of directors. Ken requests prayers that she continues to recover.

Marie Hangey , Mesquite, Nevada who died August 22. She is the mother of Tom Beers, co-pastor of Alliance congregational partner Central Baptist Church, Wayne, Penn.

Karen serves as minister of music at congregational partner Oakhurst Baptist Church, Decatur, Ga.

Meagan Smith has been called as director of youth programming at Rauschenbusch Metro Ministries at Metro Baptist Church, New York City. Meagan graduated from McAfee School of Theology (Atlanta).
