September 2018 ~ Issue 19
Dear Evergreen Elementary Families,

I hope you all enjoyed your three day Labor Day weekend. School is in full swing and we are having a fantastic time with your children each day!
School Site Council

The Evergreen Elementary School Site Council is in need of four parents to serve for the 2017-2018 school year. It is a two-year commitment. Meetings will be held on Mondays at 3:15 p.m. on October 22, January 14, March 11 and April 29. This is an important part of our school decision-making team. We are in need of one parent who will also represent the ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee). School Site Council Bylaws require that the school community conduct a formal vote for new membership.

If you are interested in serving, please email Mrs. Hansen at jennifer_hansen@crpusd.org. Please attach a statement (may not be more than 75 words) of why you would like to serve on the Site Council.  Thank you!

Construction Update

*Campus updates are due to our community's support of our district by voting for current bond measures. We are so grateful to have the ability to make these much needed campus improvements due to your generosity.*

Get ready for some more action on the school improvement front! You may have noticed the fencing around the grass area behind G Wing. Construction is expected to begin in the next few weeks on our new parking lot! This will take 4-6 weeks to complete. Please use care and caution when traveling to and from school from the north end of campus.

In order to keep our campus as safe as possible for our students, we have also fenced the brown construction trailer located between the current parking lot, the Multi Use Room, and the A Wing.

Construction on our new Multi Use Room will begin after the new parking lot is finished. This will take approximately 1 year to complete. After the new Multi Use Room is complete, the existing Multi Use room will be converted to a Library/Computer Lab.

Our students are really enjoying watching the construction process unfold!
Dine and Donate

Our Dine and Donate events will be operating a bit differently this year due to current laws. This year, we will only be notifying families about Dine and Donates via email. We are no longer allowed to send flyers home in students' backpacks/green folders regarding Dine and Donate events. Please make sure your email address is current through the PowerSchool student information system so you are sure to get our Dine and Donate emails.

We are in the process of setting up our Dine and Donate events for the 2018-2019 school year. Stay tuned for upcoming dates, times, and locations.
Learning Lab

Our after school Learning Lab is up and running! Our computer lab is open on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:00-3:30pm with our Media teacher Mrs. Harumi. During this time, students can work on Lexia Core 5 reading program as coding programs.

If you are interested in having your child attend the Learning Lab for one or all of the days that are offered, please reach out to your child's teacher for a permission slip. Many thanks!
Communication

CRPUSD has adopted a new student information system for the 2018-2019 school year, called PowerSchool. We are no longer utilizing the Quick Schools student information system. Parents should have received an email from PowerSchool with logon information. Please contact Ms. Rochelle at rochelle_gregori@crpusd.org if you did not receive a logon email.

Communicating effectively with families on a regular basis is very important to me. I will utilize several methods to communicate with families: Facebook, the Evergreen Elementary website, Parent Messaging through PowerSchool, and our Evergreen Express newsletter. Here is how to access all of that information:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CRPUSDEvergreen/ This is a closed group for Evergreen families and staff only.

Information emailed to parents - Contact Ms. Rochelle at rochelle_gregori@crpusd.org if you did not receive a logon email

Evergreen Express Newsletter: The Evergreen Express will be sent on a monthly basis.
Safe Routes to School
PTA Corner

What a great first week weeks of school! We were so glad so many of our awesome Evergreen families were able to make it out to our first free family fun night event. We have lots more fun and free events planned for the year and hope you will all be able to join us for those too.

We will be having our first meeting on Thursday, September 20th at 6:30pm. Dinner and child care are provided. This would be a great time to meet your 2018-2019 board and ask any questions. Sent home on back to school night were envelopes to join the PTA. This is a yearly membership and your $10 membership fees go to help paying for our great activities and helping the school. Hope to see you all on the 20th.

Amazon Smile

Who doesn't like free money? Amazon Smile is a great way to earn money for Evergreen Elementary. The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price from your eligible AmazonSmile purchases. I'm sure many of you shop via Amazon as well, and all of those purchases can add up to a LOT of free money for our school!

Here's how you can sign up:
On your first visit to AmazonSmile (www.smile.amazon.com), you are prompted to select a charitable organization from our list of eligible organizations. Please select "Evergreen Elementary PTA" in Rohnert Park. In order for Evergreen to receive funding, you must logon to www.smile.amazon.com instead of the regular amazon.com website each time you shop at Amazon. Thank you for your support!

Low Cost Home Internet

To help students access the internet from home and to be able to use their iPad for learning away from school, we are happy to share some Internet options for families who don't currently have Wi-fi access at home. Both Comcast and AT&T, among others, now offer high-speed wired and wireless home internet access at lower costs ( about $10/month) for qualifying families in Sonoma County. These options are not limited to student devices but would also provide internet access for the entire home.

For more information on these options, please follow the links below:

This is not an endorsement of these companies. The district is not in an agreement with any of these companies to solicit customers, and the district will not benefit in any way as a result of how many families do or do not contract for any of the services purchased. This message is simply an effort to make district families aware of the options that exist to access low-cost internet at home.
