Halton Farm Tour showcases high school using farming robot
Halton Region’s 38th Annual Farm & Food Tour kicked off at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School in Burlington, showcasing some of the exciting, innovative horticultural learning opportunities and resources that are being offered to their students, including a FarmBot -- a fully automated food production system that seeds, weeds, waters and maintains gardens.

“The FarmBot project began last year as a way to engage students across multiple disciplines and expose them to agriculture in a way that relates to their skills and interests,” explains John Giusti, a teacher at Notre Dame.

Trio Bakery Inc. receives $1 million to scale up operations
Trio Bakery Inc. has received a $1 million investment from FedDev Ontario to create the only fully automated burek pie production facility in North America.

With the funding, the bakery will retrofit an 18,900-square-foot facility in Mississauga with advanced equipment, including a fully automated production line.

"As well as adding 15 full-time manufacturing jobs in Mississauga, Trio Bakery Inc. expects to positively impact the local supply chain by purchasing ingredients and packaging from businesses in the Peel and Halton regions," the news release shares . Read more .
Honey & Garlic Festival
Albion Hills Community Farm is hosting a  Honey & Garlic Fest  on Saturday, September 28th , with local honey and garlic vendors, farm talks, walks, community organizations, entertainment, demonstrations, an escape garlic room and more.

Food & Beverage Summit
The Niagara College Canadian Food & Wine Institute Innovation Centre is hosting a  Niagara Food & Beverage Summit on Wednesday, October 23rd . The event will be a great opportunity for those in the food and beverage space to learn from each other in a dynamic setting.

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has launched a Broader Public Sector (BPS) Champions Program to provide BPS institutions the opportunity to report on their local food purchasing targets, and receive certificates of recognition.
