Do you wonder about your rights and responsibilities with regard to the protection of a client’s information when you are called upon by the court to produce clinical records or give personal testimony? When might a therapist be compelled to disclose clinical information via records or testimony? What parts of a client’s record are protected by statute? Under what circumstances may private health information (PHI) be legally shared? If you have every wondered about any of these questions this workshop is for you.  Robert G. Madden, LCSW, JD, Professor at the University of Saint Joseph, practitioner, and experienced presenter, will cover the basic legal issues clinicians encounter routinely, starting with an overview of topics such as mandated reporting, medical records laws (i.e. HIPPA), confidentiality and privilege, professional negligence/malpractice, releases of information and redaction of records. Legal principles that apply to clinical record keeping will be reviewed including current legal and ethical guidelines that support a standard of care to reduce the risk of liability and ensure quality practice. The workshop will address the different court systems--Probate, Juvenile, Criminal-- in the afternoon session, tackling some more challenging issues such as subpoenas, testifying in court, being in an adversarial position, and presenting a case effectively. Don’t miss the opportunity to have this essential legal information be a part of your clinical practice.

ENERGETIC BODY TYPES: WHAT THEY REVEAL ABOUT YOUR CLIENTS
Friday, September 27, 2019
9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Blue Heron Healing, 43 Amato Circle, Wethersfield, CT
The Energetic Body Types are: Creator, Lover, Supporter, Achiever and Challenger. Like energetic armor, each type reflects a way of holding energy in the body that defends against pain. Adopted in childhood, these defensive patterns prevent our clients from moving through life with flow, vitality and grace.

For each body type you’ll discover: how they engage in life, their main issues, their hidden agendas, how they feel, how they make others feel, how they speak, their human challenge, their spiritual life task, early imprinting, the energy centers most affected, their shadow emotions, how their overall energy feels; what physical, emotional, and psychological difficulties each body type is prone to, and the gifts and talents of each one. You’ll learn short and long-term healing practices for each.

The training goal is to begin to recognize the body types -- to ascertain what psycho/emotional/spiritual dynamics are at play for your clients. This is fascinating information you can put to immediate use in your practice.

You may register at http://blueheronhealing.blogspot.com/p/nasw-approved-cecs.html .  Contact Julie Montinieri, Energy Medicine Practitioner, at [email protected] or 860-614-0747 with any questions. $159 includes catered lunch.

This program is NASW/CT approved for 6 CECs.

Getting to the Heart of the Problem:
Targeting, Assessing and Solving Problem Behaviors
co-hosted by Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital

October 24-25, 2019, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
New Haven, CT

This training is designed for experienced individual psychotherapists with solid familiarity with DBT to help them define client problems and develop effective solutions with clarity and precision.

One of the difficulties in treating complex clients is deciding how to spend session time when the client presents with multiple problem behaviors in a given week. Determining treatment priorities in the midst of unrelenting client crises can feel overwhelming and confusing even to the most experienced therapist, and can lead to diminished motivation for clinician and client alike.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) helps address this common problem by using a treatment hierarchy to prioritize behaviors to target in session. One function of targeting is to determine which behaviors need to be assessed and solved. Chain analyses set the stage for understanding behavior and intervening with increased precision and efficiency. A clear understanding of the options for solving problems, based on a well-formulated problem and clear assessment, can help clients and therapists experience success in treatment. This helps avoid the problems that many experience of inefficient use of time and feeling stuck in therapy. When done correctly, both you and your client will have a clear snapshot of the variables at work during a given behavior, highlight problematic behavioral patterns, and find new behaviors to put to work for your client.

This training is highly experiential and will include topics such as setting precise and appropriate treatment targets tailored to the patient’s clinical presentation, and conducting accurate chain and solution analyses. Instructors will utilize a combination of lecture, demonstration, and practice of DBT interventions. Participants will have multiple opportunities for hands-on practice throughout the workshop.

This training is intended for mental health professionals who have knowledge of, experience, and/or prior training in DBT, and want to advance their skills in targeting behaviors and conducting chain and solution analyses with clients with multiple problems.
