Give us some background on yourself/your business.
I was born and raised in Appleton, WI and lived there most of my life. After college I entered the I.T. field as a computer programmer and continued down this path for roughly 17 years. During this timeframe I pursued several side projects, all of which revolved around online sales & website marketing. In 2007, one of my projects really started to take off so I decided to leave I.T. (which was scary!) and pursue full time. This is when the first iteration of eComp Marketing was born (then called eComp Enterprises). In 2012 I met my fiancé’ Becky, who is a Hancock native, and relocated myself and my business to the U.P. in 2013. With the move to a new state I decided to re-launch and re-brand the business under a new name, eComp Marketing.
eComp Marketing offers digital marketing services, including web development, search engine optimization, social media marketing, search engine marketing, and more.
How many years have you been in business?
I’ve been doing Internet marketing professionally now for 12 years. Seven years as eComp Enterprises down in Appleton and five years as eComp Marketing in Hancock.
What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know?
Although working with local businesses has always been a priority, I’ve done a lot of work with clients from all over the world. Some of the countries include Canada, Brazil, Peru, the United Kingdom, Russia, and more.
Do you have any advice for new business owners?
My biggest piece of advice is to stay focused and avoid getting side-tracked. We live in an age where we’re always accessible and other people are constantly after our time. Learn to say “no”. Stay focused on your goals and what matters to you most.
What brought you to the area?
A girl, of course!
What are your business's goals?
First and foremost, I’d like to get to know more of the people and businesses in the local community. Unfortunately, since moving to the Upper Peninsula I’ve been dealing with some health issues that have prevented me from getting out much and meeting people in person. Now that I’m doing a lot better, my goal is to get out into the community and get to know you!
I’d also like to continue to exceed our client’s expectations by providing the most effective Internet marketing services available to local small businesses. By using the highest level of quality and integrity, I’d like to continue being a leader in online marketing. eComp Marketing is accredited by the Michigan Better Business Bureau (BBB) and currently has an A+ rating. I’d really like to keep it that way!
How can people keep up to date on what's happening at your organization?
People can subscribe to our newsletter, follow our blog, or follow us on any of our social media channels.

Additionally, many of the classes are taught by some of the best-known practitioners in their respective field (e.g. renowned designer Aaron Draplin teaches logo design, entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk teaches social media strategy, TED Talk sensation, Simon Sinek teaches presentation skills, etc.) or in conjunction with some of the leading companies in a particular discipline (Mailchimp teaches email marketing, Atlassian teaches how to build a high performing team).
Each Skillshare class has an associated project to allow students to practice what they learn, and customized class recommendations based on individual interests and engagement will help give each participant a personalized experience tailored to their specific needs.

Our roots run deep in the Keweenaw
|
|
Upper Peninsula Power Company was created in 1947 through a merger of three utilities. One of them, the Houghton County Electric Light Company, earlier acquired the interests of Peninsula Electric Light and Power, which began operating in the Keweenaw in 1884 – just five years after Edison invented the light bulb.
From the Edison bulb to high-tech electronics of today, you might say UPPCO has been providing “
U.P. Power
” for more than 130 years.
