September 2019 Issue

CPWC Members,

Welcome back from our summer break. We hope to see you all at the Garden Party Opening Lunch on September 13th, where we will celebrate our Past Presidents as we look forward to our 50th anniversary in February 2020.

Thank you to Lynn Thompson for chairing the opening lunch and to Julie Lischer who is chairing the 50th Anniversary Committee. We appreciate the contributions of every one on the Programs and Anniversary Committees. Our programs are impossible without you. A special shout out to Janie Kissling for documenting our past Presidents club memories and Cynthia Dolezal for creating the history boards for each decade of our clubs existence. Look for the history boards at the opening lunch and at our Friday morning programs throughout the year.

The celebratory fun will continue on Saturday September 14, as we participate in the East Cobber Parade. Please contact us if you want to participate. We are also collecting non-chocolate candy to distribute. You can bring a bag to opening lunch or drop it off to 760 Burning Tree Drive.

September is full of opportunities to connect with each other. The Savvy Evening Group is attending a  CPR First Responder Class on September 17. On September 20 we will enjoy a private showing of the Downton Abbey movie and on September 25 Abbey Glass is hosting a pop up shop at the home of Cathy Snyder. In addition, our Interest Groups are resuming or continuing to meet, providing spaces for CPWC members to gather in smaller groups around activities that are particularly meaningful to them.

Please read on to see more details about our activities and interest groups. We encourage you to try them out, and explore our community in a new way.

Our vibrant community of women is sustained by making & renewing connections with each other. Those connections start with our new member event. Thank you to Cindy Formica, Regina Wood, and Aurelie Barrial for their outreach to prospective members. While many of us were relaxing over the summer, they were busy planning the newcomers event.

One of the most valuable gifts we can offer each other is our presence; to be fully engaged in the present moment with another. The CPWC creates many opportunities to be present to each other, to foster connections within our community that nurture ourselves and our neighbors. We have so much to celebrate as we recognize fifty years of community, connection, and service.

Honored to be celebrating with all of you,
Belinda Vogel and Beverly Dozier

Newcomers Newcomers Party

We had a wonderful Newcomers party on August 18th at the lovely home of Beverly and
Robert Dozier's home. We had 9 new neighbors attend and several CPWC Board members along with many of our representatives and community leaders. It was quite the hot day, but we think our new neighbors truly enjoyed learning all about our community and our women's club, including our vast array of Interest Groups that they could become a part of.

A huge thanks goes to Beverly and Robert for opening their home a nd to our very own Aurelie Barrial for the delectable food prepared. Also thank you to th e Board members, particularly Susan Fulkerson and Kristin Ward for extra delicious food. You all graciously made our guests welcome.
                                                                                              Your Newcomers Committee,
Aurelie Barrial, Cindy Formica & Regina Wood

This will give you an idea of what to expect for the Hike Inn hike and make any needed changes beforehand. The Sope Creek trails are similar to the Hike Inn Trail. The Sope Creek trail is rated as moderate with some incline. Please plan to wear hiking boots for stability and to protect your ankles from snakes. Trish Wenger will be the contact person for this hike, so please RSVP to  [email protected] .

Plan ahead for October's hike, which will be the Pink Ribbon Walk in the ACC on October 14. Our third annual Hike Inn hike is October 20-22. Twelve people have made reservations to hike!  This should be a fun event.

Yard Yard of the Month

The Garden Club would like to congratulate this month's Yard of the Month Winners: Caryn and Darren Sonderman! The Sonderman's home is on 501 Oak Hill Circle (off Tam O'Shanter). Jenny Long of Potted Perfections worked with Caryn on the home's beautifully appointed and detailed landscaping. It's a four season gem! If you walk the neighborhood, please consider a new route or detour to enjoy Caryn's yard!
