Come Find Us!
We are
located
east of Landis Green, between Strozier and the William Johnston Building. Our office is on the 3rd floor, alongside the Office of National Fellowships and above the Honors Program office. HSF is open from 8 am to 10 pm from Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 5 pm on Fridays, and from 5 to 10 pm on Sundays, and we have many areas, rooms, and nooks to study in a quiet, unique space.

NEW Presentation Requests!

We have made it easier than ever to request a presentation from a CRE representative. What's more, you can use this portal to request a presentation from any undergraduate office (CRE, Office of National Fellowships, or the Honors Program) in the Honors, Scholars, and Fellows House!
Simply fill out this form and an HSF staff member will respond to schedule your presentation.

The CRE has many resources for faculty to increase undergraduate involvement in your research, from having them assist you on your own research
(Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program) to supervising their summer research funded through IDEA Grants. The

The 2019 President's Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence is the culmination of the IDEA Grant, Tech Fellows, and iGEM summer awards. At the President’s Showcase, award winners share their research and creative projects through poster and oral presentations. This event is open to the public and refreshments will be provided.

The Florida-Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (FGLSAMP) program’s mission is to increase the number of minority students who complete undergraduate STEM degrees and to enhance the preparation of FGLSAMP STEM majors for graduate education opportunities. FGLSAMP helps students acclimate to the college environment, enhances the social and academic integration of the undergraduate experience, and encourages engagement in research and internship opportunities. , DFA-FSU is co-hosting a design sprint focusing on the future of work in child welfare. The DFA-FSU studio will work closely with IBM Design Thinkers the following day (Friday Sept. 20th) to plan how they will take the findings from the sprint and continue the design process the remainder of the Fall semester.

Apply to present your research at the United States Capitol!
Meet members of Congress and their staff, share your research as a poster presentation, and demonstrate the importance of undergraduate research. In Spring, the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) hosts a poster session for undergraduate research at the US Capitol!
Applications are due November 5th by 11:59 pm!

FSU Libraries
hosts workshops throughout the semester on various research-related topics including: Qualtrics and software use, coding languages, finding and using data, qualitative analysis, writing techniques, research, and more!

FSU Libraries is pleased to present an evening of conversation and learning with Dr. Dave Tell. Dr. Tell will be discussing his new book, "Remembering Emmett Till" and the "Emmett Till Memory Project." Focused on the $4 million spent on Till commemoration in the Mississippi Delta in the wake of the murder’s 50th anniversary, “Remembering Emmett Till” features never-before-told stories about the legacy of Till’s murder.

The
Student Council for Undergraduate Research and Creativity (SCURC)
is FSU’s student-run research council that facilitates student engagement in undergraduate research. As a bureau of FSU’s Student Government Association (SGA), SCURC accomplishes this goal through its two branches: the Undergraduate Research Ambassadors (URAs), who are in charge of the outreach of SCURC, and the OWL Undergraduate Research Journal, which gives students the opportunity to publish their research. Throughout the fall and spring semesters, SCURC hosts workshops on how to get involved with research (among other research-related topics), offers travel grants for students presenting and/or attending a conference, and holds peer advising hours through the URAs.
The Undergraduate Research Ambassadors (URAs) are the outreach branch of SCURC. Our team of URAs markets SCURC events, hosts and presents workshops on a variety of research topics, and offers one-on-one peer advising appointments where interested students can talk about their interest in undergraduate research and receive guidance on getting into a project. The URAs have research experience in most majors across campus. In addition, the URAs this year are working on expanding their reach into the humanities and creative arts.

Meet the new SCURC Director!
|
Drew Parker is a third-year student at Florida State University majoring in Psychology and minoring in General Business. His research experience includes studying treatments for anxiety-related disorders and the evolutionary psychology of romantic relationships.
He serves as a Project Manager in the Meltzer Lab overseeing longitudinal research. Elsewhere, Drew has held the position of Treasurer for the National Alliance on Mental Illness on campus, volunteered as a Crisis Counselor, and interned for a Human Resources Consulting Firm. His future plans include pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology and becoming a clinician.

Eli Myron
2019 IDEA Grant Recipient
Eli Myron is a 2019 IDEA Grant recipient who received a Phi Eta Sigma Undergraduate Research Award. Eli is a senior dual degree student in Biological Science and Environment & Society. In Summer 2017, he interned at the Whale Shark and Oceanic Research Center in Honduras. He is working with coral ecologist Dr. Sandra Brooke to address coral restoration.
Eli has been working on his summer research project, which he will present at the
2019 President's Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence
, titled "Understanding the Role of Underwater Architecture in a Coastal Ecosystem: How Do the Physical Characteristics of Man-made Structures Influence Benthic Communities?" Eli dived with his research mentor Dr. Sandra Brooke using a PVC pipe contraption to survey benthic communities to gain a better understanding of the biodiversity of artificial reefs. Following graduation, he will pursue a Ph.D. on coral restoration and to strengthen community engagement on the subject.

Sarah Warren
2018 IDEA Grant Recipient, UROP Student, Leader, and Mentor
Sarah Reagan Warren received an IDEA Grant from FSU to study female Nazi electoral politics and early quantitative methodology in the social sciences in 2018. To conduct her research, she utilized a novel dataset of thirty essays written in 1934 by German females who voted for Adolf Hitler. Sarah and her colleagues conducted the first robust analysis of these essays and introduced a female perspective to the modern understanding of Hitler's electorate.
Winning the IDEA Grant allowed Sarah to travel to New York to obtain primary source documents for the project, which went on to become her undergraduate Honors In The Major thesis. After graduating with her B.S. in Political Science in May 2019, Sarah returned to FSU to begin her PhD in political science with a focus on American and comparative politics, specifically studying welfare policy and its impacts on political attitudes and voter behavior.
