September 2019 UME Master Gardener
State Office Announcements
Happy September everyone! I would like to thank everyone who volunteered as a docent in the Learning Garden at the Maryland State Fair. It was definitely one of the most popular attractions at the Fair. Thank you all for helping to make it such a success!

Our brief updates for this month include 3 continuing education opportunities. One is in partnership with fellow University of Maryland Extension volunteers in the Master Watershed Stewards program. Another is a unique seed saving workshop in the Learning Garden at the State Fairgrounds! Please feel free to reach out with any questions. We look forward to seeing some of you at these events!
New Continuing Ed Opportunity: Seed Saving Workshop
October 7, 2019 | Timonium | Free
Join University of Maryland Extension Specialist Jon Traunfeld for a seed saving workshop in the University of Maryland Extension Master Gardener Learning Garden at the State Fairgrounds! There will be flowers and veggies available in the garden to practice what you learn. All materials will be provided. Please bring a water bottle for yourself.
New Continuing Ed Opportunity: Rain Garden Workshop and Plant Swap
October 19, 2019 | Columbia | Free - $5
Join fellow Master Gardeners, Master Watershed Stewards, and Columbia homeowners with a rain garden for a plant swap and rain garden workshop! We will cover a refresher on Rain Gardens 101, how to choose the best plants for your site, and where to find further resources.
A rain garden plant swap will follow the workshop.
Registration for the workshop is $5 per person and the plant swap is free to take part in. If you would like to attend both, choose one of each ticket types when you register.
Continuing Ed Opportunity: Living Architecture Lecture
October 24, 2019 | College Park | $10-$15
Join us for this guest lecture from  Furbish , the company who designed and installed green walls at both Stamp Student Union and McKeldin Library! Furbish innovates and develops living systems, primarily green roofs and green walls, to benefit the built environment. They deploy natural systems, which make economic sense for every building, to improve our health and the environment.
Learn from these experts how you can utilize green walls, green roofs, and vertical gardens in your community.
