Big Things Happening in September

September is bringing exciting things for us at Habitat as work will begin on two new homes in Freeport very soon. If you or someone you know may be interested in Habitat home ownership, look below for more on our upcoming information sessions. These sessions explain the process, qualifications, and will have applications available.

Ryan Carmichael
Critical Home Repair Manager
In other news, we are excited to announce that we are promoting Ryan Carmichael to oversee the Critical Home Repair Program! In his new role he will supervise all construction-related responsibilities associated with the program including repairing roof leaks, stair repairs, structural work, and addressing accessibility issues. Ryan previously served as our Construction Site Supervisor, working alongside our Construction Manager. We are so happy to have Ryan take on this new role, a position that is new for our affiliate. He has worked with us for over five years and has been a valuable asset to our team. We know he'll do great things for the Critical Home Repair program!

The creation of this new position is made possible by a $90,000 grant from the Cumberland County Community Development Block Grant program. The Critical Home Repair program is also sponsored by Town and Country Federal Credit Union and Gorham Savings Bank.

Enjoy the last of summer and stay safe!

Sincerely,

Godfrey Wood
Executive Director

Freeport Homeownership Information Sessions

A similar Habitat home

We are excited to begin work on two new homes in Freeport very soon! The 3-4-bedroom single-family homes will be located on the corner of Old Brunswick Road and Route 1.

If you are interested in applying for homeownership, you must attend an information session. These mandatory sessions explain the homeownership program, requirements, and how to apply. Sessions will be held at the Freeport Community Center in September. Pre-registration is required; walk-ins will not be allowed in. Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, all attendees must wear a mask in the building at all times. Additionally, Habitat will be limiting the number of people attending the sessions, so please try to keep your party to one to two people and avoid bringing children if possible.

Bank of America Grant

A Bank of America group build day at our previous Freeport project

We owe many thanks to Bank of America for recently awarding us with a $7,500 grant, which is in
addition to a major $15,000 grant received in May. The grant monies donated to Habitat by Bank of America in 2020 now total $22,500. The grant will be used to support our Freeport project, Freeport Woods. Without the steadfast and enduring support of organizations like Bank of America we would be unable to address so much of the need for affordable housing, so thank you!

Homes, Communities, Hope + You

As a result of COVID-19, many of us have spent a lot more time at home. We've been forced to consider the fundamental importance of home - of having safe, decent and affordable shelter.

In addition to the economic impact of the pandemic, light has been shined on underlying housing issues that many Americans face. Low income households are particularly at risk as a result of their economic instability and their concentration in service industry and other hourly jobs. In an estimated 12 million of these households at least one contributing member work in an at-risk industry.

We ask that you help us make a difference in the lives of our current and future Habitat homeowners. Make a donation and help us combat the affordable housing crisis!
