Sign-Up Month
This September, the Welles-Turner Memorial Library is joining with the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month.

This initiative encourages people of all ages to get their library card and take advantage of everything the library has to offer. With a library card you can:
  • Download a book, magazine or newspaper
  • Stream a movie
  • Register for virtual programs
  • Learn a language
  • Participate in a DIY activity

Read Around Town
If you saw some familiar faces around town placing yard signs at homes in your neighborhood, it was probably the Children's Librarians. We were very excited to surprise the children who joined the summer reading club by bringing the program to them. Here are some of the amazing young readers!

 Virtual Program Highlights
Here is just a sampling of the many programs available to you this month. Register now!

Children
Fridays in September ~ 10-10:30am
Families with children ages 5 & under: Move and groove to your favorite kids' tunes as Wee Rock comes to your home via Zoom! Join us for 30 minutes of songs, dance and fingerplays. We suggest you put together a Wee Rock box that has everything you need to participate:

  • Shakers: pasta or beans in a plastic jar, small box or plastic eggs
  • Rhythm sticks: 2 spoons, pencils, etc.
  • Scarf: small blanket, towel, etc.
  • Bean bag: small stuffed animal or other toy
     Use your imagination - anything will work! Online registration is required in order to receive login information by email on the day of the Zoom storytime. 

     Also returning in September are Little Bookworms on Tuesdays and Little Goslings on Thursdays! Visit the calendar for dates and times.

Teens
September 10 ~ 4-5pm
Join Katie, Registered Dietitian from Food Explorers, to make cheesy and delicious Mac & Cheese Cups! You'll learn how to make your own cheese sauce from scratch and create this tasty treat in a muffin tin. You'll need the following ingredients: elbow pasta (or other small pasta), 3 TBSP butter, onion, garlic, all-purpose flour, cheddar cheese, milk plus optional breadcrumbs and Parmesan.

      This is a virtual program that will be held via Zoom. You will be emailed the Zoom link the day of the program. Register online or by calling the Reference Desk at 860-652-7720. Registration with a valid email address is required in order to receive login information on the day of the Zoom meeting.
     There are more timely events planned, such as Votes for Women. And C2 Education continues to offer their virtual college entrance exam practice tests. For more information, click here.

Adults
September 2 ~ 6-7pm

Join Kathleen Titsworth from the Connecticut Department of Banking to discuss ways to manage your debt and repair your credit the right way and avoid common mistakes. The library's temporary hours are: Mondays & Fridays, 9am-1pm, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1-5pm, Wednesdays, 3-7pm. The library will be closed Monday, September 7 for Labor Day.
