Happy September!
After several months of changing my approach to teaching due to the pandemic, I am learning to let go of the things over which I have no control. At the same time, I am learning to embrace change, embrace technology, and embrace challenge. These have not come easily and there will still be bumps in the road, but, it has given me better focus and peace of mind.
As time goes on, some will return to in-person lessons, some will continue virtual lessons and others may use a combination of both. Regardless, music teachers are resourceful, hard-working and creative in the midst of these challenges. So we will find a way to connect with our students, to inspire great musicianship, to teach and to be taught, to find humor when the students' home life spills into the lesson and most importantly to continue sharing the music!
I am grateful to our branch board members, who work tirelessly to provide quality programs and events for all of us and our students. We appreciate input from all branch teachers so let us know what programs will be helpful to you . we will be working together, collaborating and sharing ideas to improve our teaching and our well-being.
Wishing you much success in your teaching!

Helpful information for online class on Zoom
|
|
First of all, Zoom and most laptop/tablet microphones have built-in audio enhancements that are great for picking up speech, but are not great for music. You will need to turn off these audio enhancements to make sure the audience and judges hear a good-quality version of your performance. Here are the instructions:
How to disable "Audio Enhancements" on a MAC in Mojave:
System Preferences - Sound - Uncheck box “Use ambient noise reduction”
How to disable the "Audio Enhancements" on a PC in Windows 10:
Right-Click the Speaker Icon in the Taskbar, Select Sound - Recording
Double Click Microphone
Select Enhancements - Check "Disable all sound effects"
Select Communications - Check "Do Nothing”
Disable the "Audio Enhancements in Zoom:
Click on the ^ next to microphone icon bottom left corner
Audio Settings - Audio - Uncheck Box “Automatically adjust microphone level” and set slide to middle
Click ADVANCED
Check Box “Show in meeting option “To Enable Original Sound” from microphone
"Suppress Persistent Background Noise” - select “Disable"
Echo Cancellation - select “Auto”
Quit out of any unnecessary applications running in the background
Don’t have other devices in your home use Wifi during this time
It's best to use an ethernet connection
