The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at Sedona Public Library on Friday, September 3, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Appointments are required. Please schedule online HERE or call 1-800-RED CROSS. Red Cross has added precautions to ensure blood drives are safe for donors and staff.
- Beds are spaced 6 feet apart
- Face masks are required
- Donor areas are disinfected
- Hand sanitizer is available

on Monday, September 6, in observance of Labor Day. The Library will reopen on Tuesday, September 7.

SPL To Expand in the VOC!
We are thrilled to announce that we will soon open an expanded branch library in the Village of Oak Creek. Thanks to a new lease with the Sedona-Oak Creek Unified School District, our current service center at Bell Rock Plaza will move to the Big Park Community School library later this fall.
Library services in the Village had a humble beginning nearly 20 years ago when residents placed a cardboard box to return books in the lobby at Weber’s IGA (now Clark’s Market). From there, the Village Service Center moved to West Cortez Drive, spent a few years in Tequa, and moved to Bell Rock Plaza in 2015.
This has been a vision for many Big Park residents for more than twenty years, and we're proud to deliver. A library is only as great as its community, so we know we'll be able to create a thriving library for all to enjoy!
We hope to be open in our new location by November 1. Stay tuned for future updates and information.

The Sedona Human Library 2021
UNJUDGE SOMEONE at our Fifth Annual Sedona Human Library, Sunday, September 19, 2021, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Library.
The Human Library™ "publishes" people as open books to challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue.
Experience people living with stereotypes such as Gun Owner/2nd Amendment Advocate; Gay Black Person in HIV Housing; Conservative Christian Mystic; Transgender Mother/CEO Carpenter; Multiple Personality Disorder; Brown-skinned Muslim Woman; Wrongfully Accused White Male; Married Lesbian; Suicide Survivor to Healer; Lifelong Abuse; Transgender; Hidden Chronic Illness; HIV Positive Gay Man; Single Female Astrologer; and Body Modification/Addict.
This is a FREE event sponsored by Sedona International City of Peace, Sedona Public Library, the City of Sedona, and Rotary Club of Sedona.

Fun Activities at Sunset Park
Since May, many parents, "grandies", caregivers, and children have met at Sunset Park for a weekly "Story Time in the Park." Guided by librarian Marcia Hansen, we have gone to the moon, climbed aboard a pirate ship, been swallowed by a slippery fish, made rainbows, and jumped in puddles. Special guests have included dragons and dinosaurs, and we’ve enjoyed a teddy bear picnic and a trip to the beach.
The "Story Time in the Park" program was loved by all, so much so that attendees have requested the Library continue it into the Fall. One mom said, "This has been a wonderful program for my son and me. The Library is the center of our community and "Story Time in the Park" brought us together with new friends for both of us. We’ve also had other 'in-house' opportunities such as the puzzles, music, DVD's, interactive activities, and STEAM programs."
Come to Sunset Park at 9 a.m. on Wednesday mornings for an hour of stories, music, sign language, flannel songs, and interactive play with Marcia. The program is geared to preschool children, but all are welcome.
You can also enjoy “Music Morning with Annette” on the first and third Thursday of each month. The next event is September 2, at 9 a.m. One of our favorite patrons, Melanie, said, “Miss Annette’s music programs are fantastic. She brings music learning and magic to the park! It’s an invaluable gathering for the community.”

And, we have a new StoryWalk! Please come by to read and interact with “This Old Dog,” written by Martha Brockenbrough and illustrated by Gabriel Alborozo.
This StoryWalk is special because it is sponsored by a local dog, Maya. Be sure to look for Maya reading at Sunset Park, too! See you there!

News from Cheryl in the Village
Thanks to the community for your overwhelming support of the Village library’s relocation to the Big Park Community School library.
We appreciate your generous offers to assist with the move. We don’t know exactly when that will be yet, but we promise to keep you informed.
More information will be forthcoming in the library newsletters and the local newspapers. In the meantime, we will continue to offer library services in our current location at Bell Rock Plaza.
We know you are going to enjoy visiting the welcoming space in our beautiful new facility!

City and Yavapai County Host Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection Event
The City of Sedona and Yavapai County will host a FREE household hazardous waste and electronics collection day on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Sedona City Hall complex.
This event is for residents of Sedona and unincorporated Yavapai County. Please be prepared to show a driver’s license and one utility bill as proof of residence.
Waste that will be accepted includes aerosol spray products, antifreeze, batteries (except for lead acid or any other vehicle battery), tube TVs, flat screen TVs, desktop and laptop computers, radios, phones, e-readers, mp3 players, game systems, gasoline, household cleaners, kerosene, light bulbs, pesticides, pool chemicals, standard grill and camping propane tanks, oil-based paints, stains, solvents, thinners and adhesives.
Waste that will not be accepted includes ammunition and fireworks, car or other vehicle batteries, commercial business waste, explosives, compressed gas cylinders (other than propane) such as oxygen, latex paints, medical waste or prescription drugs, motor oil and oil filters, radioactive materials including smoke detectors, tires of any kind, or any other material or items not listed in the accepted list.
Sedona residents in Coconino County may participate in this event in addition to being able to drop off items year-round in Flagstaff via the Flagstaff Hazardous Products Center. Visit www.flagstaff.az.gov/hpc or call (928) 213-2159 for more information.
Disposing of hazardous waste in landfills contaminates drinking water and can kill wildlife.

Calling ALL Village / Big Park Residents!
We’re excited about the Village library, and know that you are, too. Here’s what Library Trustee and Village resident Peter Wolf said, “This is a major step towards a long-awaited, full-service library in the Village of Oak Creek.” Peter is the former chair of the VOC Library Committee that has worked hard for several months to plan and finalize the lease. “We are fortunate now to have an actual library space. We will move as quickly as possible to make it operational. Taking on this large space will be borne by the SPL budget. But the VOC community has shown enthusiastic support for a Village library over the years and will, we are sure, come through for us.” In fact, one Village resident has already made her first annual gift of two thousand dollars and promises the same for two more years in support of this project.

Friends of The Sedona Library
It’s the waning days of summer, but there is still time to get in some of those summer reading list wants! There is nothing quite like curling up with a good book. And you can find lots of them and great deals on them at the Friends of the Sedona Library Book Sale in the house next door to the Library.
If you haven’t visited the book sale house yet, or haven’t done so in a while, drop on by and see the changes the volunteers have done there. During the month of September, you can get even better deals – ½ price from the marked value! – on world history, and on true story/true crime titles. And of course, there are tons of titles across the spectrum for you to load up on. Our hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come on by!
