With a strong interest in continuing to host Alumni Weekend on campus this fall, the school has moved most activities outdoors and has other COVID mitigation strategies in place. We kindly request all visitors to campus be fully vaccinated. Additionally, in order to keep our spaces safe for our young Vikings who are unable to be vaccinated, everyone on campus is required to wear masks at all times while indoors (unless actively eating or drinking). Masks should also be worn outdoors when appropriate social distancing is not possible.
Early Childhood Showcase on October 6

Columbus Academy's Admissions Office will host an Early Childhood Showcase at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 6. Alumni who are interested in our Explorers (ages 3-4), PreK (ages 4-5) or Kindergarten (ages 5-6) programs for their children are invited and encouraged to attend. This adults-only event will provide attendees with the opportunity to meet Academy's early childhood teachers and to learn how they bring student creativity and curiosity to life.

2021 Student Alumni Board Representatives

We are pleased to announce that Aislinn Ahern, McKenna Chow, Cassidy Jones, Christopher Shen, Charles Stoner and Aleeza Yakoob have been selected to represent the senior class as Student Alumni Board Representatives.

Student Alumni Board Representatives serve as liaisons between the Alumni Board, Alumni Office and the student body. They foster relationships between alumni and students and help develop and manage events that bring alumni together. During their senior year, the student reps attend all Alumni Board meetings and serve on committees as needed.

The student reps support Columbus Academy financially through participation in the Annual Fund and, following graduation, act as class agents until their five-year reunion. As class agents, they work with the Alumni Office to collect class notes, help with class fundraising solicitations and assist in organizing reunions.
LGBTQ+ Alumni Interest Survey

In order to enhance belonging and community for students, the upper school LGBTQ affinity group is looking for LGBTQ alumni who are interested in connecting with current students.

There are a few ways alumni can get involved:

1. Participate (in-person or remotely) on a panel presentation for current students and faculty/staff during LGBTQ History Month in October. Panelists will reflect on their school experiences and collectively build an understanding of LBGTQ history at CA.

2. Engage in discussions (in-person or remotely) with current LGBTQ+ students during activities or lunch periods during the school day. Topics for discussion would be student generated and may include issues such as life at CA, transitioning to college and professional life, family life, or current events.

If you are interested in participating in either of these opportunities, please complete this brief survey and we will be in contact with you. Thank you!
School News

Columbus Academy welcomed back students and families to its 231-acre campus on August 23 to begin the 2021-22 school year. That morning, students in grades 6-12 arrived for start-of-school activites, including Unity Day for the entire Class of 2025. The afternoon ended with lower school families exploring classrooms, meeting teachers and enjoying an ice cream social. Academy's 111th school year began with 1,169 total students spread among 15 grade levels. In her Convocation address, Head of School Melissa Soderberg urged everyone to greet each other warmly, especially Academy's 178 new students and nearly two dozen new faculty/staff members. "We have been away from our typical moments of creating community for a long time as a result of COVID," said Soderberg, now in her ninth year guiding the school, "and it is going to be very important for all of us to make an effort and to reach out to be WITH each other this year."
For the first time ever, the Columbus Academy Jazz Ensemble will be featured at the Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival! Our musicians will perform a number of tunes in a variety of styles at the event's Round Stage from noon until 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, September 19. Band members include seniors Russell Ahmed, Ben Anasis, Kyle Bernstorf, Dhruv Edamadaka, Maddie Kazatsky, Emmett Leo, Janet Li, Raaghav Malik, Gyvnn Mendenhall, Ryan Reagan, Liam Ross, Malachy Sullivan and Stephen Wright, juniors Alexis Cunningham, Jono Hammond, Zech Kim, Imani Munene, Arya Narayan, Tori Raiken and Arvind Rajagopalan, sophomores Ellen Hansen, Akshaj Jagarapu, Maria Masek and Reed Swartz, freshman Carolina Mize and eighth-grader Adam Aikens.
