Mayor's Message

School is back in session and we are gearing up for the return of the Blue Springs Fall Fun Festival... Fall is right around the corner and there are some great events coming up you won't want to miss! Scroll down to see what's happening in Blue Springs this month.

Did you know Blue Springs has grown by almost 11.5% percent in the last decade? I am pleased to announce we are officially a City with a population of 58,603 residents, making us the 10th largest City in Missouri and the 8th largest in the KC metro area.

Deputy City Clerk Earns Prestigious Certified Municipal Clerk Designation

Blue Springs City Council and myself had the honor to recognize Deputy City Clerk Julia Porter during the August 16 City Council meeting for earning the prestigious Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). Ruth Bocchino, City of Gladstone made the presentation to Council. Congratulations, Julia!

Hayley Prins named Miss Curvy Missouri

I had the privilege of presenting a Mayoral Proclamation to recognize Blue Springs native and graduate of Blue Springs High School Hayley Prins for being crowned the 2021 Miss Curvy Missouri. Hayley will go on to compete in the National Miss Curvy pageant November 6-8 in Reno, Nevada. Congratulations Hayley, Blue Springs is cheering for you!

Nasir Clinton wins USA Boxing Junior Olympics National Championship Title

12-year old Nasir "Daddy-O" Clinton (center) was recognized by Mayor Pro Tem Kent Edmondson (far right), along with council members Jerry Kaylor (left) and Chris Lievsay (second to left) with a Mayoral Proclamation for Nasir's Championship win in the USA Boxing Junior National Olympics Bantam 101 lbs. Nasir will be entering the sixth grade at Brittany Hill Middle School. He is the first ever Blue Springs native to win a USA Boxing Junior Olympics National Championship Title. He has been training in the sport of boxing for four years and has competed on the amateur level for three years. Congratulations, Nasir! Blue Springs is proud of you.

City News

Moreland School Road Reconstruction: Closure Extended

The City of Blue Springs is alerting motorists that the Moreland School Road closure will remain in place for several more days due to unforeseen issues and weather delays.

SW Moreland School Road, between SW 10th Street and SW Liggett Road, is closed for road reconstruction. A marked traffic detour is in place directing motorists utilizing SW Clark Road, SW 7 Highway, and SW Liggett Road.

The contractor has encountered rock and additional subgrade removals beyond the original scope of work, which has added to the completion time. Rains experienced on Tuesday, August 31 and the upcoming forecast for the weekend may cause an additional delay. The City will send out a notification once the roadway has been opened to all traffic. Thank you for your patience.

For both the safety of construction workers and drivers, we urge motorists to be cautious in work zones and watch for workers.

Blue Springs Population grew 11.47% in 2020 Census

It's official, the 2020 Census numbers are in and Blue Springs can now boast a total population of 58,603. That's up 11.47% from the 52,575 recorded in 2010. Blue Springs is now the 10th largest City in Missouri and the 8th largest in the KC metro area.

Accessing the COVID-19 Vaccine

All Missouri adults age 16 and over are now eligible for the COVID-19 Vaccine.

Anyone who is a Missouri resident and is old enough to receive the COVID-19 vaccine (16 years old to receive Pfizer; 18 years old to receive Moderna) can sign up for an appointment. A parent/guardian of individuals who are 16 or 17 must sign the consent form.
