Storyteller Children’s Center Promotion Ceremonies
Modified Graduation Ceremonies
On July 30th & August 12th respectively Storyteller celebrated our students moving on to Kindergarten this fall. The modified events were split into two separate celebrations, with graduations happening at each site.
The State Street Head Start group had their ceremony in the meeting hall of the First Congregational Church. The children sang songs, after which each child was called up to receive their certificate and an award that described their best characteristics.
At De La Vina Preschool, the ceremony was held outside in the backyard under our beautiful avocado trees. The children also sang and the teachers regaled the families of stories about each child's accomplishments during their time at Storyteller. The families were instrumental in creating decorations for the backyard event.
Backpacks with school supplies for Kindergarten were supplied by the Golden Rule Foundation, each with a notebook, pencils, sharpener, markers, glue sticks, their very own book to read, and a hand made congratulatory card made by some of the younger members of the foundation.
The families came with balloons, treats, and took many photos and videos with the teachers. We will miss them all so much!
Refreshments were generously provided by National Charity League.
Thank you to National Charity League for supplying snacks and drinks for our Promotion Ceremony.

New Year New Sand for the Sand Box
Tidying Up for New Students
At Storyteller we are open 246 days out of the year and that doesn't leave much time for us to work on the grounds to get it ready for our new students. Thanks to our friends at Deckers Brands for donating sand for both of our centers AND the volunteers from Boys Team Charity of Santa Barbara for filling all of our sandboxes. With their help, we were able to make things looking nice just in time for the arrival of our new students.
New School Year Begins
Storyteller First Day of School
Monday, Aug 16th marked the first day of school for our new students, as well as our return to our regular program hours of 7:30am - 5pm. Over the last year, we've been operating at a modified schedule due to COVID. It feels good to be able to return to a full day schedule so we can best support all of our working families. We are excited to welcome our new friends to Storyteller and are looking forward to many fun adventures this coming year.
Shaping Our Children's Future
By Jordan Killebrew and Kara Shoemaker

Everyone has a story. At birth, many stories begin with a promise for a bright and happy future. But what if you are born into challenging circumstances? What if you are immediately plunged into a world of poverty, homelessness, and trauma?
