Newsletter: Back-to-School Wellness News for YOU!
The new school year is here! Last year, the pandemic put a pause on the typical back-to-school routine. While this year brings with it lingering uncertainty, one thing has remained the same – school wellness is essential.
The School Wellness Initiative for Thriving Community Health (SWITCH) Movement is a collaborative effort amongst partners dedicated to supporting state-wide school wellness efforts. It is with great excitement that SWITCH announces the launch of its new website, MassSchoolWellness.org. This site serves as a resource hub for schools, families, and communities across the state.
Whether you’re a teacher trying to implement classroom movement breaks, a parent or guardian in need of a nutritious recipe, or a superintendent searching for social emotional learning tools – MassSchoolWellness.org has something for YOU!

The Bureau of Community Health and Prevention in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is issuing an RFR (Request for Response) for the Mass in Motion Municipal Wellness & Leadership Initiative. The RFR was posted on September 13 and applications are due Monday December 13, 2021. Please find the RFR here.
Mass in Motion is re-procuring grantees to implement municipal and regional practices to address root causes that impact opportunities for active living and access to healthy and affordable food. Funded grantees will support Mass in Motion goals of 1.) increasing and aligning local spending to improve conditions and address Social Determinants of Health; 2.) sustaining the day-to-day practices of municipal governments, organizations, and collaborative partners to address structural and systemic racism and other root cause barriers to good health; and 3.) ensuring everyone has access to healthy foods, opportunities for safe, physical activity, and the things that keep us healthy.
The RFR is open to those who may apply for funding as a single municipality or neighborhood or a collaborative/regional partnership. Potential applicants should review the RFR for further eligibility criteria. Mass in Motion anticipates awarding approximately 6-12 contracts ranging from $80,000-$160,000.00 each annually and that there will be programs funded across the Commonwealth. The start date for grantees is anticipated to be July 1, 2022. There are two Bidder’s Conference sessions scheduled for September 22, 2021 (2:00 PM) and October 5, 2021 (10:30 AM), links in RFR.
