The dog days of summer are fully upon us, and with these hotter days come the promise of chillier, crisp weather around the corner. While some of us may already be missing summer and not looking forward to the reduction in sunshine and cooler weather, some of us are looking forward to the beauty that Lisle and our surrounding areas offer in the fall. The changing colors of the trees are always particularly beautiful in our area, and it is something that I look forward to every year.
This summer has been quite a trip and it has been great to begin to get back in person to see each other throughout the community and in meetings and committees. Be sure to consider becoming an Ambassador and joining the Ambassador Committee at their meeting on September 24th, which is virtual and may be in-person). Being an Ambassador is a great way to promote your business throughout your community, and we are always looking for more people to spread the word about how great a chamber membership can be. More information can be found on the Chamber website, or by emailing Jill or myself with questions.
While this time of year normally has us enjoying ale fests, concerts, and strolls through the park we still are seeing limited events (both indoor and outdoor), but rest assured YOUR Chamber is working to come up with creative ways to hold events that we all love so dearly. Our foremost concern while planning these modified events is the safety of all in attendance, as well as being sure to stay fiscally responsible through these still stressful and odd times. We hope that you all will enjoy the events that are on the horizon, and as always, we want to hear from you if you have an idea for an event that you would like to see in your chamber.

Our Chamber is looking for Members to join our Board of Directors with experience and passion that can add value, growth and further development to the Chamber. The mission of the Chamber and our Board of Directors is to facilitate, advocate and cultivate opportunities for the Lisle Area Business Community. Our Board of Directors meets once a month and are meeting virtually at this time. The volunteer position begins January 2022. If you are interested in furthering your professional and personal contacts and volunteering your time for the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce, please email me at jill@lislechamber.com for an application. The deadline to apply is September 13, 2021.
The State of Illinois announced a $250 million “Back to Business” grant program aimed at helping small businesses in the recovery from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Funds are from the federal American Rescue Plan Act signed by President Biden. There is $100 million for businesses in areas disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, $30 million for arts and entertainment businesses that haven’t received previous aide; $25 million for restaurants and taverns that didn’t receive money from the Restaurant revitalization Fund; $25 million for hotels; and $25 million for businesses that didn’t receive Business Interruption Grant funding. A statement from the Governor’s office said those grants helped more than 9,000 small businesses in 600 communities. A statement from the governor’s office said the Back to Business program is the “first in a series of economic recovery programs set to launch by the administration.” The program aims to allow companies to offset losses due to COVID-19 and bring back workers through grant funding that does not have to be repaid.
The B2B funding will be administered through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The application period opened August 18th and is open until funds run out. Grants are ranging from $5,000 - $150,000. AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT
Kettisha Stamp

This month’s featured Ambassador is Kettisha Stamp of Universal Technical Institute. Kettisha has been with the Ambassador Committee since February 2014, and she is the Director of Student Services at Universal Technical Institute’s Lisle campus. In her role, Kettisha oversees multiple functional areas including Student Advising, Registrar/Records, Scheduling, Student Activities, Housing, Veteran Resources, and Students with Disabilities Support. Kettisha supports students to not only complete their programs but to succeed in their training so they are ready for their careers on day one. Universal Technical Institute, Inc. is the nation's leading provider of technical training for automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians, and also offers welding technology and computer numerical control machining programs. In 2016, the Lisle campus received the prestigious Excellence in Student Services Award for its outstanding focus on student outcomes and in 2013, 2018 and 2019, the regulatory body recognized the campus with its School of Excellence Award.
In 1997, Kettisha joined the Universal Technical Institute team as a counseling intern, where she found her passion and purpose. Ever since, she has dedicated her career to supporting Universal Technical Institute’s students thrive and succeed. Kettisha understands the high demand for skilled technicians and is honored to help students obtain an exceptional education to be prepared and ready to help serve these essential careers from day one on the job.
Kettisha lives in Oakwood Hills with her husband Jeremy, her daughter Delilah Aurora and their two rescue dogs. She enjoys yoga, spending time with her family, getting involved in her community and making a difference in people’s lives. The Lisle Area Chamber has been an outstanding partner to Universal Technical Institute; many Chamber members advocated for the relocation of the campus to Lisle, offered students discounts at local businesses, and have hired Universal Technical Institute’s graduates. It been a privilege to be Universal Technical Institute’s Ambassador to the Chamber because it has allowed her to work with outstanding local business leaders and forge wonderful personal and professional relationships. Kettisha’s favorite quote from Tennessee Williams, ‘Luck is believing you’re lucky, that’s all.’ She likes this quote because it reminds her to always be positive and to never give up.
