September brings the season of changes and transitions in many of our lives. Kids are returning to school and some adults may be returning to the workplace. This August I experienced what was the happiest/sad day of my life. I took my daughter to college out-of-state. For the past 18 years she and I have built one of the most loving mother-daughter bonds I could have ever asked for. Whew! This change has definitely reminded me of one of our philosophies at Adoption Mosaic, the importance of learning how to live with “both/and”. I am so excited and proud to see my daughter embark on this new journey AND I have never missed anyone’s daily presence this much. Not to mention having to learn how to keep my deep-seeded adoptee fear of losing her at bay. The impact of being adopted is deeply engraved in this new journey of helping to launch my baby girl into the world and at the same time staying grounded. Ever since dropping my daughter off 3 weeks ago, I have been grounding myself by staying close to my amazing community, family, and my work.

One of the things that has been and will continue to get me through this transition is my Adoption Mosaic community and the work we have ahead of us. Below you will find some exciting new programming that we have scheduled for this fall!

We hosted a backyard in-person adult adoptee pizza dinner and movie screening of the documentary Reckoning with The Primal Wound. Including a virtual appearance by writer, director, and producer Rebecca Autumn Sansom. It was wonderful to be able to watch this film with our community in person. For those of you who were not able to join us in person we are excited to announce an online viewing on October 6th, including a Q&A with Rebecca (see details below).

Currently, we understand in-person gatherings will probably still be few and far between. We will continue to offer our regular online programs including two We the Experts panel this month. Before we officially say good-bye to summer, we want to give a big thank you to our four We the Experts panelists (LGBTQ+ and Race) Kelly Moe, Ari Schill, Bo Parrish, and Tony Hynes. And, thanks to everyone who attended.

As always, thank you for your continued support of Adoption Mosaic and our community especially during this time of change and transition.
